finding old paint codes

Has any body, ever had too find old paint codes? late(40s early 50s) Are their any web sites that might help.

What make and model are you looking for? If all else fails there are tons of color chips on E bay.

To answer your question is a 1949 Divco milk truck. I'm a member a of the Divco club and no help their either.

Have you found a tag on the truck with a paint code? Might not of had one. If you have an area of reasonably good original paint, most automotive paint stores have an analizer that can figure out a formula to mix it. Is this a resto? I'd have to hot rod one of them!!!

I asked an old croney friend of mine who was a Divco fleet owner back in his day, he said new ones were delivered in white or un finished. He remembers the ones he ordered as the unfinished, he had them painted white and blue with his company logo on the side. The interior was gray. He could remember no more, he`s 91. It took 20 minutes to get that info for what it`s worth.

ED i asked the old farmer also .He said the same thing .He bought his with no paint and it had a gray gut. They brush painted it when it was brand new LOL He is trying to find me some pix.s of it for my wall of shame(pix's of everbodys bikes and cars at the shop)
