KQQL looking bumper suggestions for Big Olds
by hotrodladycrusr

Tried my front 47 Chevy bumper on Big Olds today and I really don't think it's going to work. Way to small for that huge front end. I guess I didn't realize till now exactly how HUGE it is in comparison to my Chevy. That being saig, I'm up for suggestion what what you guys/gals might think would look KQQL/right, not only on the front but a rear bumper also.

The only one I won't even comsider is the ribbed 49 Plymouth one. My buddy Craig Suman has them on his 47 Olds so it's difinatley out for me. Grant, this is your big chance. Draw a few ideas up. I can even send ya the artist rendering that Eric did and you can try diffeent bumpers on that.

So what do you think will look KQQL on Big Olds?

That is one classy ride. Mike Ditka had one like that when he was still in Chicago, one of the big buck outfits was building it for him, then he moved and I never heard of it again. There was a write up on it somewhere, maybe Goodguys Gazette.

Denise--I would suggest that you carry a tape measure with you to the shows, its going to be difficult to fit something on that large a car. If you want to use something in its stock form, you are probably going to be limited to Buick, Olds, Cadillac bumpers. Johhny mentioned split bumpers, you wouldn't have to worry about the width with them.

How about a 47 Pontiac grille and no bumper. I like that.

There's a pic of one with a split bumper here http://autohobbypage.com/cgi-bin/image.pl?/show/01/spf/nat257.jpg This particular one doesn't do it for me.

'49 - '51 Merc bumpers MIGHT fit, dont quote me here. It all depends on the curve of the splash pan and body. Ya also gotta take into consideration if it's wide enough or too wide..Might have to add or subtract.

Worse comes to worse, nerf bars look just as cool! If ya dont go that way, get a roll pan in the works for the front and saw off the bumper horns and weld in steel to the body where they come through to make it look like ya gotta rear roll pan too.

I got a Coast to Coast im finishing on paper for a friend, should be done tomorrow..shoot a pic of the front and back at me and I'll get to playin' for ya.

Well, I was going to suggest '41 Pontiac bumpers, as they have a little more contours to them, but they don't wrap around. I believe that this pic is a '48 Pontiac, and it has wrap around bumpers that aren't as large as yours. I don't have a pic of the front. Just an idea.

WOW, you guys really came up with some cool ideas and suggestions. Debb's husband Rob wanted to do split bumpers way back in Jan and I poo-pooed him. Oh well, maybe so. :) I'll have my tape measure and camera with me for the next couple of months and see what I like that might fit. I like the idea of a split bumper but maybe more of a bumperette. Maybe not wrapping all the way around the side, just in the front? Thanks again for all the ideas, keep um coming?

just say over and over skirts, www, skirts, www!! just kidding, even I know that he's not that type ;)

Have fun and and think of me tomorrow when you go by 94/69

Denise,

If you come through here this summer (Bonneville or such) check out the bumpers on my spare 41 Olds. If you want to go stock that is. Or you might get the bumpers from your friend with the 47 that with the ribbed bumpers. 47 Olds bumpers are really cool.
