If you get a massage from Streetrodstuff Inc, Don`t open it. It has the kleze virus. IT IS NOT FROM THIS SITE! Some bastard has found a way to disrupt again. I am safe from it, My Norton found and deleted it for me. Watch yourself with this one.

If I try to open the email, the screen goes dark, then a message comes up that Norton has detected a virus, and asks you what you want to do with it: delete, fix, etc. I always tell it to delete. Can't beat a good virus detection program.

Randy, It will scan the email as it comes in and tell you it is there, Quarrentine it then delete it from the system. You can do a manual scan too, then take it from there.

BTW, be sure to stay up to date on your virus definitions. Go to start, programs, Norton Antivirus, and there should be a place there to click, and it will update your definitions.

Well Ed, somebody sure is pissed and they're targeting this site. There is a file that has been uploaded to the DSRA Group site and I wouldn't advise anyone to open it. My computer says its a virus. Don't download it!!!! or try to look at it in any way.

Give me your home address via email and I will burn you a copy of mine. It is not hard to install, just follow the onscreen instructions. It is Norton 2002. You must subscribe in one year when it expires $29.

Ed-is this program already registered to you? I don't know a lot about computers but isn't that what constitutes piracy? I think it could only be used if the other party never registers it, in which case it couldn't be updated.
Just a thought.

Fact is, Klez spoofs the from address on the infected email.

If any of you'd bothered to read the virus info at Symantic ot McAfees sites you'd know that.

Klez was one of the first worms to exhibit this trait and uses it very effectively.
It means that you can point fingers all you want, but you're likely not pointing your finger at the infected computer. Just a new way for a worm to survive a little longer.

You are correct there Mike. I wouldn`t be so suspicious if I only recieved one or maybe two, But 3-9 a day says...somethings not right here. One guy leaves from SRS in a huff and we get multiple email viruses and the dipstick site gets hit too. Too much of a coincedance.

Can't blame you for being suspicious Ed.
I'd be suspicious of the upload to the DSRA site, since that's not normal worm behavior.
Emails though, I've been getting bursts of 3 to 9 a day for the past month. Most appear to have some sort of "car related" clues, so I suspect that the virus is running rampant through the on-line car community.
Saving grace for me is the fact that we run a scanner on our mail server, so that by the time I see the messages they are already tagged {Virus}

Yea man. I'm kind of thinking like digger, which is why I posed the question. I know we all just try to help each other, yet I can't see how Norton can allow two registrations and two update channels for one purchase. Now if you don't plan to stay current through updates, then I understand. Once somebody registers a copy things logical should get sticky and I'm just thinking ahead in the hopes that nobody gets squeezed......Frank

I guess you would be a pirate if when you are billed for the sevice and you don`t pay it. I gave the same disc to a friend who registered it and was billed, he payed it and continues service. I wouldn`t think of pirating anything, If it is illegal, count me out.

I had the old KLEZ bad a few weeks age. It's a real active virus and gets into everybodies e-mail address book. Look on the internet for an explanation (Symantic site's a good spot for an explanation, and (I think) a free download to deal with it. In my case there was one pesky file that could only be deleted in DOS. Four or five of my contacts had it also, even though we're not directly related by e-mail. Can't tell who got it or who spread it. The important thing here is that it was probably not introduced or spread on purpose, just some asian S.H. with too much time on his/her hands.
Norton seems to do a good job avoiding it and F-Prot has been recommended by another car website manager. Just so you know -- if it had come from me, it would have exploded (yup, it works that fast) weeks ago.
Daffy
