I would like to know what everyone thinks about this--pros and cons. My son wants to get rid of his stock guages in his '55 Chev P/U, but is undecided which way to go. I would like to hear from all of you to maybe help him figure it out. Thanks.

Personally I've stuck with VDO and Auto Meter since day one. Nothing against digital, it's just my preference. Those who run digital that I know have had off and on troubles, and the only way to fix is to send back to Dakota Digital or wherever ya bought the unit.
But again, it all goes to what your taste/preference is.

I don't care for digital because I have to think everytime I look at a gauge. I have to see what the number is and it has to register in the brain if that is ok or not. I like analog because I can tell if things are normal with just a glance. I'm sure that if I drove digital for a while, I'd get used to them but I'll stick with analog.

In 74 I had a 55 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier. I switched it from a 6 to a V8. Wanted to keep the stock look and bucks were tight so I found a 58 Chevy passenger car, took the electric temp gauge and oil pressure gauge (with the correct senders) and put them in the stock panel. Looked stock and worked well. The problem with this now would be finding a good donor vechicle.
I have always used Stewart Warner gauges. That's what the 'big guys' ran when I was coming up and when I got where I was was able to get a set, I did. Cut the dash, and put them in my 55 Chevrolet 150 business man coupe. The needle reads in the middle of the range as a rule so they are easy to read at a glance. Have digitial in my new everyday car but hope the warranty from GM does not quit before they do.

I've had both. I had digital in my last two 34's. Both of them worked great with no problems. Only thing i don't like about them, When the sun shines through the side window it's hard to read. I took some time to figure out the gas gauge it reads in %.
To me it depends on the look you want.

I have never been a big fan of Digital gauges just because they reminded me of the stock cars that have had so many problems with them.I suppose i feel this way since i work for G.M.I have always thought that the right Gauge to look at in a car will add alot of enjoyment driving a car down the road.I still like my Stewart Warner Gauges too.Everyone is entitled to an opinion though. :)

I believe it is a matter of preference. I seem to prefer the old classic look so I would want to stick with analog gauges. I have looked at Moon Eyes and think they are cool. Dolphin also makes a nice looking gauge set at a reasonable price. Lots to choose from...just need to decide what your taste is.

I recommend the Classic Instrument gauge panel with all the analog gauges in one! Easy to put in and works like a charm and on top of that they are soooooo good looking.
I have put four in so far in tri-fives and nary a problem.

I' ve always liked the classic anolog look. black face, white pointers. but I'm older than your son. In83-84 when Corvette changed to a coplete new design they had Digital only, but owner feedback forced them in later models to put somekind of dial or graph in. It was the biggest compaint from new owners.
