Its no problem, lots of people sqeal when they get to Climax :-))
I just talked to her and she fryed the bearings in her alternator and thanks to the Fellow Pages she got a hold of a guy in town and he's helping her. They're putting a new one on. I was out in the shop and didn't know what was going on til I came in. She left a message on my phone. The guy that is working on it knows what he's doing so she'll be alright. She's only 120 miles from home and she said she's already 9 hours behind schedule. She's getting back on the road as soon as she can.

Hi Guys/gals. I've made it here to Mikey's (DrHotRodMD) penthouse suite. (LOL) Found out that my pully for the power steering pump is shattered and bent! That probley why it thru the belt. Will be using my muscles this weekend while at BTTF's. A nice guy named Art (married) replaced my alternator for me. A very high drama day that I'm happy is over. I'm off to get some sleep!!! Early, fun packed day planned tomorrow hopefully not repairing Big Olds! LOL
Deb, thanks for being at the end of the phone. A friendly voice sure calms the nerves. George; appreciate the call back.

Denise, Do you have a powersteering pump pulley that bolts on with a big nut? or is it a press fit? You can get a pully from PEP BOYS for it. It's chrome but still works! Dave

Well guys the rain finally cleared out about 4:30 and the sun came out about 5:30. People were drying off their cars and starting to cruise the grounds. Rained buckets today and things are a real mess in the grassy & dirt areas. They have a record attendance of 10,300 (regisrations) last we heard around 4:00. Should be a great day tomorrow. Couldn't find big olds today so might have to call Denise tomorrow on the cell. Did see ag_chevy dave's truck from a distance in the driving rain.

Well guys/gals, I made it to Mikey's penthouse suite finally. Major problems with Big Olds. Left the fairgrounds, went north on Snelling then just before the freeway the fusebox started on fire! The flames were about 6 inches high!!! Pulled over at the same time I'm squirting it down with a water bottle. A couple of people pulled over to help. After I dryed my eyes I pulled the wires apart so the bare ones weren't touching each other. Started Big Olds up and drove a mile to the host hotel parking lot to see if I could find someone to help. Made a few phones calls to buddies in the area but no one home. A couple of rodders pulled into the parking lot. I went over to ask if they could help out. They came over and scoped it out. Said the damage wasn't too bad. I had electrical tape and one of the guys wrapped all the bare wires up. Seems a resistor is what was on fire. One of the guys scraped some crud away and determined this. My headlites, taillites, and brakelites all worked so I called Mikey to see if the guest room in the penthouse suite was available. Was suppose to head to Green Bay for a couple of days but I thought heading for home was a better ideas and it seems like that was the right choice. Voltage went from 14 to 10 in the 5 hour drive from St Paul to Janesville. Mikey and I will determine the problem and fix in the morning. Hopefully it's just the used alternator that was "borrowed" on Wed on my way out. Definatley a trip from hell. The show itself was awesome. Had a wonderful time with the SRS gang and buddies from Canada. People kept coming up to me all weekend asking if I've seen what buds on SRS have been up to "remaking" Big Olds. I really needed a laugh when I got here, and you guys never let me down. Thanks, I needed that.
--
Your "top-less" cruzn buddy, Denise
Thanks to Mikey and back up, long distance phone help from George, seems like Big Olds is going to be ok. The guy that installed the "borrowed" alternator did not put this rubber grommet thing back into the chrome sleeve that protects the wires as they run back to the firewall. The blue wire for the internal regulator got shaffed from the sharp edge and shorted out. Mikey thinks this might have also cause the fuse box fire! What a mess, Big Olds could have burned to the ground cuz of ONE WIRE!! Big Olds is charging fine now. We're going to take a ride in the Rambler and check out Mikey's dads race car shop then I'll hit the road. Stopping to met Murph on the way home. Going to be a fun day after all. :)
--
Your "top-less" cruzn buddy, Denise
Bummer on the road hazards Denise, This may be a good time to concider a new wiring harness. The car is bare enough to do this easily. Check out the SRS store for the Painless system for your "Chubby Olds" It`s an easy install and would take you a weekend to finish.

ED,
Think Big Olds has a Ron Francis box in it or one about that size. Saw it in Lincoln before Power Tour and it was covered with plastic and duct tape. Mounted in the kick panel area on the passenger side. Would have been a hot one if there was a full interior there and the fire was behind an upholstered panel.

Thanks sweetie, I wish you lived closer just so I could learn from your vast knowledge. :)) I would love to be able to hang out and "help" a pro rewire Big Olds. I do believe I could really learn alot. I'm at a lost. Does the WHOLE rod need to be redone or maybe just the fusebox and the burnt wires?? What's your expert opinion?
Guys, Thanks for all the laughs. A small outboard motor bolted on Big Olds bumper on Friday in the monsoooon would have been really, really, cool at the fairgrounds. Maybe one of my junkyard buddies could keep their eye out for a small one and I could keep in the trunk and bolt on in a flash for a good laugh if/when I get caught in a monsooooon again. LOL
