A EX-TROOPER with a need for speed?

If my memory is correct........ the 385 has aluminum style fast burn Vortec heads and a factory TPI does not have the same bolt pattern and water passages as the fast burn heads.

You might want to check this further. GM has a high performance book but mine is at work. DEUCE

we all need a fast hobby. as ex-trooper I do miss the speed. been retired from injuries for 10yrs I just want to play with the boys again. not certain about water passages but Scoggins-Dickey Chevrolet produces TPI base manifold for this engine (I ordered it along with 24lb injectors and 52 mm throttle body.) will have to have new computer chip burnt but other than ones mention any other problems???

NONE....... I was under the impression that you were using a factory TPI like off a Vette or IROC.

Should run excellant.

Ref the TPI base manifold: if you have the March 2002 issue of Super Rod they had great article on it. the part# 12498060 for the manifold. I have 305 TPI engine in car now but decided to put more hp under the hood. Running 700R with 3.70 9" ford. Thanks for help.

I like the NO JOB in 10 years. I need 2 years more to retire. Had a heart attack last year and was afraid that I was going out feet first or or disability.

That's a nice engine. I've got a friend that has one with a Comp roller cam in it and an Edelbrock carb and a Performer RPM intake and it runs like a raped ape.

Its a kind of an RPM motor and a 2200 stall converter works real nice with it....it really stalls at about 2500 because of the torque.

My next crate motor might be a 383 stroker with some enhancements :-)

plan to drive it as much as possible. don't believe in trailering one unless just have too. had 37 Ford coupe that I drove back and to work almost everyday for for 15yr I feel that cars are meant to be driven not sitting in garage. You'r right about the money it was a hard decision. I also own a 1977 Ranchero that I bought new that we built like a engine in Hot Rod Magazine ( their was dyno at 382 Hp and I went a alittle futher than that) the truck is my only transportation except for wife's chevy. Thanks for info.

As stated the 385 is a ZZ4 shortblock with the addition of the fastburn heads. The relibility of the ZZ series moters is proven over and over. The fastburn heads and your planed injection add on, sounds like a Winning combo. A fellow locally has the new injected 350 motor in a shoebox and He LOVES it.
