posted earlier this month looking for a Must II clip..
had some help found one complete never wrecked in driving distance for $200. I'm putting in a Heidt's crossmember and the stock parts will be a temporary fix till I can come up with the scratch to buy the cute tubular stuff.
I know I need V-8 springs to hold up the 460 and this clip has 6 cyl over. But the man has some 99 Cobra springs.. could these possibly work ??
question # 2
it has a p.s. rack with it.. if it should need repair, can yo rebuild these and who would you talk to about doing the work... how much $$$ can I expect
thanks in advance

The 99 mustang springs won't work. The later stangs are strut suspension. As for the rack, just buy a rebuilt unit. Turn in yours for a core. Call NAPA for the cost. I May be wrong, but I thought Heidts used there own parts, and only shared geometry with the mustang 2?

John, try the 4cylinder springs. I have a 460 in my 40 Ford pickup, and I used the 4 cyl springs. I cut half a coil off and it still sits a little high. Will leave it that way until after it's on the road and hopefully it will settle a little. The Mustang parts will bolt onto the Heidt's crossmember without any problem.

John, consider purchasing new springs for your particular application from A1 Springs. If you tell them what car you have and engine, they can furnish the right spring with no cutting and no guesswork. I did that with my 29 Ford with 350 Chevy and Mustang II suspension. The springs cost me $70 and I only had to do the spring thing once.

You don't need V8 springs. Use a new set of stock Mustang II 4 cyl springs. They are more than enough. I'm using them on my 454 powered 41 Chevy and it sits correctly and rides well and the motor weighs about 750 pounds. If you ask Heidts they'll tell you to use these springs. I didn't listen the first time I installed one of their setups and I've got a new set of V8 springs just sitting in my shop that will never be used. Used a set of 6 cyl springs for my hemi powered pickup and had to cut half a coil out.
Don't try to rebuild a Mustang power steering unit. If it goes bad just use it as a core and pick up a rebilt unit from your local parts store.

bill,
thanks for the info on the springs... Heidt's is the one that recommended the V-8 springs under the 460 !!! it's about the same weight as your 454... 750-800 #s.. I'll try your suggestion first... then if that doesn't work I can always go up
thanks

I have one of Heidt's catalog's, and page 6 discusses the use of Pinto/MII springs. They state that the reason you use 4cyl. springs in a street rod is engine placement. The small Fords have all their engines right over the front axle, whereas the streetrods' engines usually sit behind the front axle, thereby needing softer springs. If they told you that you need V8 springs, it may be because your engine is sitting over your front suspension?
I'm (hopefully) enclosing the drawing of the cars from their page. Hope this helps, and doesn't confuse you more.
