ok who went to the carlisle show?..what did you think?..i think that it was probably the worst one i`ve been to in years..vendors opened late..closed early..the muscle cars out numbered the street rods 3-1..besides the wheather wasn`t to good anyway..on sun i went looking for a few vendors who were dealing in performance products..i was looking to buy a set of 5-point harnesses and an msd dist..they opened up around 10 am..i went to get my wagon and when i returned (about 10 mins) later they were packing up..i told the guy what i was there for and he told me i should have come earlier..well i`m not sure about the rest of you but i don`t getting an attitude from anyone..especially from a member who deals with the public all the time..i told the guy that he just opened and iwaited for an hour for him and this is how he acts..well lets just say after a good 10 mins(with me doing all the talking) he apoligized over and over and said he was sorry..and that he would take care of me..well he was asking a $190.00 for the msd but when i went to buy it the price jumped up to $235.00 and the belts went from a$125.00 each to $173.00.....lets just say that i told him where and what he can do with his"stuff"..and left..and that will be the last time i go to carlise..now the floor is open...lol....pat

I went Thursday, and as usual the Cop eating donuts and operting the light on rt 12 at the Big fuel station had things backed up for miles and hours.
As for the Show it self. it seemed the usual mix of parts.
Mostly late model stuff as usual. A few rod venders Denny's, Queens and Rons.
I have never been there on Sunday but a few guys have related to me Alot of fellow/gals start closing shop saterday night and the rest sunday morning.
so in essence it's a Thursday,Friday,Saterday Show ????

I enjoyd my day. Weather was Sunny/Hot, Broke the cardnal rule by not giving a guy $$$ on a RR fender for my 38 only to return to find it GONE in 20 min @#$@#%.

As for performance parts, you will have a better selection at Englishtown raceway park This weekend IMO.

I have had flea markets spaces at Carlisle (spring and fall), AACA Hershey PA and Charlotte AutoFair (spring and fall). I have had space at the spring AutoFair since before it moved to the speedway - 1978. So I am not a Johnny-come-lately at the flea market stuff. I sell used parts and try to purchase pieces for the new current flame. Now just setup at Spring AutoFair in Charlotte NC.

With this said, Thursday was always the best selling day with Friday second. Saturday was mediocre at best. The people who had money to buy parts was there on the 1st day (Thursday). Friday was a lot of the other vendors out trying to buy your stuff and sell it for a profit or for their own pet projects. Saturday is for the promoter....big ticket sales from the crowd. Dad and the kids, maybe Mom too. Throw in the people who couldn't - or wouldn't - get off work. MEDIOCRE sales. Now I was selling real parts. Aluminum heads, intakes and ex-race car stuff. Mix in Early Ford street rod stuff and 32 sheet metal and we're taking fairly serious money for a lot of folks. All used stuff. Not a impulse buy.

My friend sold Wendol metal polish, car wax and cleaners and hat pins back before they became out of demand. All were impulse price range stuff.

His sales were exactly the opposite of mine. Thursday slow, Friday decent, Saturday KILLER.

SUNDAY we went home. Stayed in my camper till after breakfast and while I loaded up the heavy stuff, he sold a little but maybe 1/10 of Friday sales.

The only reason we did not go home on Saturday is we were dead tired and went out Saturday night and ate, relaxed and forgot about all the crazy things you had seen and heard.

That's how is was for us . After 3 days, you are ready to go home and your people skills have gone away. Now I just go 2 days...... up on Friday, the wife and I go out and see Charlotte at night ...... I used to live there....... and Saturday around 3-4........ homeward bound. Now I do not have much good stuff left to sell so losing Thursday is not a big deal and the crowds have changed.

The reason most people bring late model stuff is because that's what sells.

DISCLAIMER : I DO NOT DO THIS FOR A LIVING..... JUST MY EXPERIENCES OVER 20 YEARS..... YOUR EXPERIENCES AND RESULTS HOPEFULLY ARE DIFFERENT !!

One of the most common comments coming from attendees to Goodguys Events coming to me as a rep was make the Sunday shorter. Finals at oneish and off we go. Most of us have to work the next day and it would encourage Sunday attendance and more attendees in general. I personally tend to agree with this schedule but what do I know, not one suggestion that I ever turned in was ever taken to heart. The argument against was that there are gate attendance that would be affected. How about making the event open at night to those venues that have lights and invite the public to a Friday night show and make up some of that loss. I don't especially like sitting in the parking lot at night or listening to a bunch of old farts singin old songs either EVERY friggen event. They make way too much of their entertainment....especially after listening to it the WHOLE DAY.

What do y'all think?

I usually, given the chance, never stay on Sundays...even for giveaway cars. I do usually show up on Thursday nights tho.. Two full days are enough for me.

I was there Thurs. with " Blue Steel " , one of our newest members , ( pic in studio ) and found it to be typical. Being Thurs. , even some of the vendors weren't there and set up , yet ( mid-week ) but were steadily arriving all day. Can't speak to the 3 to 1 ratio , we weren't there to buy a car , so we skipped "The HILL From HELL".
As for "Early Quits" ? ... Maybe take a page from the Antiques Show arena. My wife has done a few major shows in the past , and it works like this ... The promoters advertise a 3 day show. The people expect to see you there 3 days. In order to insure this , the promoters charge for space and tack a "hefty" extra on your rent , that they hold until the show is over. You stay - you get it back / You leave - you don't. Even with that , some of the LARGER dealers simply see this as a "cost of doing business" and pull stakes early. But it DOES encourage the smaller dealers to stick around.
Carlisle is Carlisle ... it's either Hotter Than The Hinges ... or ... overcast , chilly , windy ... or flat out raining ... or ... all of them in the same day. Thursday ? ... we were sweatin' like ELVIS for most of the day ... by 3 , sky was dark , fork lightening , rain and temps musta dropped 20 degrees - Welcome To Spring Carlisle ! LOL

Haven't went since '92 when unc' needed some stuff for his '39 Chebby Tudor Sedan..from what I hear year after year it's like Dejavu...same people..same spots..same weather.

Um, guys, that's what Carlisle is all about. Pat, I thought that you realized that Sunday sucks up there. I would have said something, but, I thought maybe you were just going for the sake of it. I usually go on Friday morning. And yes, it's the same thing every year. But that's good, when you need something, and you know were you saw it, you don't have to search the whole 20 miles of paths just to find it.
