Removing a rear view mirror
by Dick Z
Posted: 04/25/2002 21:08 EST

I'm trying to remove a rear view mirror from my windshield. I understand that there was an earlier thread on this subject, but I can't find it using a key word search. Obviously I haven't selected the right word. Does anyone remember the discussion and if yes, could you direct me to the thread?

I usually just accidentally hit it with something, like my head or purse, and it comes off. Usually not when I want it to though!

On a serious note, I remember the thread but don't have a clue to help you find it. This sure makes a point of how important it is for the archives, to lable the subject correctly, so it can be easily found at a later date.

Dick,,,I work in a used car lot and I usually find the mirror on the floor cuz the car has been sitting in the hot sun with the windows up. Try heating the mirror slug from the outside with a heat gun to soften the glue. Dave

Dick, just hit it with your purse like Denise said. I remember the thread but not the answers. I do remember someone saying a parts store sells a chemical that will disolve the glue. Try a little nail polish remover(from your purse) and a razor blade.

First you settled for the flamed stilettos, then the sequined dress & now you want it all. Typical man ED.

Hey thanks gang!!! I'll attack it this weekend and let you know how it goes. Oh, by the way, I got my car back from my upholsterer, Scott Conley and my motor from Roger Decker. Both are awesome. I'll finish my article on the upholstery project so you can see the pics. Also have a digital clip of the motor's last pull on the dyno that I'll post. Thanks again for the help!!
