Need some feedback about paint
by Wheelie Guy

I'm planning on painting the '57 a light pearl yellow but my buddie Gary says it will look pink under the lights. I've never seen this happen does anybody know for sure I was thinking that it would turn white under the lights.

Some pearls do turn pink under lights. If you can get a small amount and paint something small, and try it out. That way you can see what it will do before you spend the money.

Why do people park in a driveway, and drive in a parkway?

One of the coolest paint jobs in this area, on one of the fastest cars at our local drag strip, is painted a lite pearl yellow. I've never seen it under lites but I have seen it many times in sunshine outside and your buddy is right, there is a noticable pink hue to it. I've got some photos around here somewhere of it. I'll look in the morning and post if I find them. It's an awesome color whether you like pink or not. :))

Pearls come in many colors. Absolutely shoot some test panels. Shoot something curved. Look at it in every light condition you can find. Pearls can look fantastic, or they can muddy up a color, and look like shit.

Get a House of Kolor chip book and check out what you can do with pearl, just by changing the basecoat. For the real effect, get that chip book out in bright sunlight.

Ditto on the House of Kolor. Thats where I came up with my color combo on the van. Picked House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl and added even more red pearl in the clear. Same with the Corvette white.

Pearls are a SOB to touch up when you get the road chips. Just something to think about. A re-paint is the only cure for the chips. Expensive! Great for the trailer queen, Not so good for a vehicle that see`s some action.

Door Chips? No problem unless I park next to a monster truck I will be sitting exactly the same height as the 55 Nomad. Besides I can't drive very far on a five gallon moon tank

I have been an automotive paint tech for 25 years & spot tri-stage pearl cadillac,s every day , & its no big deal to match the paint if you know the process & the base color & pearl color a person used.
As for a pearl color turning pink , they most likely used a red or pink pearl , or was old to begin with.
Go to your local paint jobber & ask to look at the 2001
Lamborghini Tri-Stage yellow pearl color, its a very electric pearl yellow. the color code is 0056, the PPG #'s are 84903/84904 , the color name is Giallo Orion Met.

If you stick with a factory color, a good painter should be able to do a great spot repair,as long as you dont have a ton of graphics or flames .(then comes the serious money for repairs)
Hope this helped , as I have been a member since march & this is my first post.

WOW! the wealth of information here is astounding do they still archive this stuff It might take me awhile to soak it all in and make a decision. I was thinking about ghost flames this time around though and graphics Forget about it only the whole car somebody has to pay for this project Its costing just a little more than the first one did in '67

Yes Bill, EVERYTHING that is posted here on the Roundtable is archived and the system is VERY easy to use. Go to the first page of the Roundtable and toward the top you will see the word search with a box next to it. You can type in a few words and come up with the posts that lists those words or at the bottom of that first page is the word archives, if you hit that it will give you the years, you can hit on any of these then it will give you the months. If you hit on one of those months it will give you all the names of the posts from that month. You get the picture! LOL

Another great opportunity to mention the titles of the posts should match the subject matter closely for easy archival access in the future. :))

Darrell, Spraytech, welcome to the site. Glad you finally decided to post. You certainly will enjoy yourself here. :))

WOW! Almost like a paint encyclopedia! LOL I was going to offer the same advice: Pearls come in different hues. Red Pearl really effects the color under light. I've seen white pearl turn pink because it had red pearl in it.
