I have an AOD trans out of an '86 Cougar, anybody know how much power these things can handle? Also, anyone do a good rebuild kit for the same. There a pretty rare box over here in the UK.

Hi! Steve. I am running the same trans in my KB2. Have 300 hp 351HO engine in it. No problems. Some parts are the same as whats in the C6. they will take some HP but it is the same as anything else. How heavy is your right foot? What are your driving habits like? Kits are available at any parts store.good pricing too! This trans was used in light pickups, Lincolns,Mercs,Crown Vics. 5.0l and 5.8l engines. Very common around here in those years(1981 to 1988)There are tranny shops in the States that sell beefed up models, they can be pricy. Hope that this helps you out. Ken

there is not a part in the AOD that is like a C-6 tranny. You are confusing the E40D tranny with the AOD.

The weakness in AOD is the 3rd gear clutch pack. it needs an updated pack with more frictions and steel plates.

A converter built to eliminate the direct drive in 3rd gear is recommended too
