Gee, this is kinda fun, can anybody play?
Here's a couple, probably too easy for you experts though.
1. What was the higest horsepower rating Chevy ever put on a production small block engine and what was the year and application?
2. What was the only transmission option offered by chevy in the 1983 Corvette?
I don't have a book handy to back this up, just 58 year old gray matter. BTW, I had one of the vehicles referred to in question #1, wish I'd hung onto it.

I would say the highest HP rating for a Chevy small block by the factory was the 1965 "fuelie" motor at 365 HP.
As for #2, I have no idea! FredP

I mentioned the '65 fuelie motor as thats what I was told at the time as being 365 HP but It did indeed feel like more. I put the motor in a '60 vette with 4:11 rear gears and the close ratio iron case 4 speed. It only had a 16 gallon tank behind the drivers seat and if the seals went bad like mine did, the gas fumes wouls eat the convertable top into little bits. At the strip on weekends usings Mickys slicks, I could turn a mean 12.20....not bad for a street car in the mid '60's !!! I almost got banned from the Ft Rucker post with it for outrunning an officer in a Jag! spoil sports!

Ya probably noticed already that no one to my knowledge ever took the name "Edsel" again..lol I loved those late 50's and early 60's Hydromatics! In a '60 Olds sedan I once had, You could be sitting at a light and stomp the brake with yur left foot and hit the gas with the right and that thing would make more noise and tire smoke..!!! At one point, I filled an entire intersection with tire smoke and I'm sure some one just knew that there was a car fire some where there!!! Didn't Buick have the Flush-O-Matic?? Or was that the Dyno-Flush........ It seemed to me as a kid that when they took off, the engine speed remained fairly constant and the car just slowly kept accelerating till the engine speed and car speed seemed to match. lol

Hey Fred!!! That reminds me of a 49 buick my buddy had in 1950. Convertable w/all the bells & whistles anyway, He'd throw that baby in "R" ,and that didn't stand for race, just to give the girls a thrill. It'd just slowly slow down ,kinda like slow motion. Well one day a chrysler town & country conv't pulls out in front of us as we're doin about 60, He threw it in reverse & it sure saved us from a heck of a wreck. Yeah he had to replace the tranny . eventually. B-O-B DSRA

Besides, I blew the little 283 it came with about as bad as one can be grenaded. Parts went every where but thru the hood! and all this as an E4 paying child support and raising a new family! ooooooeeeeeeeee!

You're right Slammin, Chevy built consecutive year vettes from 1953 to present, except 1983, that was the transition from C-3 to C-4 styles.

Ed, Those little 302s (I think they were dseignated "DZ") would really wind up some rpm. But seems to me they were rated around 290 horse. The real neat little cross ram intake setup on those was a dealer installed option and I don't know if they ever actually gave it a H.P. rating. The 65 vette fuelie engine was rated at more than 365.

Ed,
I was just refering to the advertised hp figures and of course a new LS-1 would blow the doors off and old 375 horse fuelie, used to be gross H.P. figures and now they use net. I follow what your saying about the 302's, the L88's were way under rated also, so you could get insurance on the old Sting Ray.

I don't think you Mopar guys should be eligible for this cause it would be too easy. Back in the early seventies Mopar had some neat names for the colors that were called "hi impact" (I think). I believe there were about seven or eight. The easy one is "Plum Crazy (purple) anybody know some of the others?
