Just did a head gasket change on my daughters car, a 1990 Geo Strom. The gasket was $53.00 and head resurface was $63. The shops I called wanted $750.00 bucks to do the job. I had about 8 hours in it. They also quoted me $254.00 for a gasket set. So somebady is making money out there. Not sure what shop rates are these days but they are not cheap I guess maybe $60 to $70 and hour? Now she ran her Chevy pick up low on oil and blew the engine in it and it is locked up tight so looks like and engine swap for that thing. Kids, arn't they swell. The PU has a 400 small blk so might be able to sell it for a buck or two if it is not hurt too bad. Gonna stuff a junk yard engine in it I think. Cheaper on her budget. Ok, out to the garage............

Have seen $90 per hr. in Chicago, out here around $75. Guess I should re evaluate my rates ($50 hr. for custom work)
