Headers

I have noticed a lot of catalogs say that their blockhugger headers are not for use on sub-framed cars due to clearance problems.
Who makes a coated header that will fit a SBC equipped Camero sub-framed car?

Southern Streetrods (Southern Rods & Parts) can make full headers with collectors and all to your specs. Sure beats block hugger shorties.

Had 'em built and JET HOT coated (big mistake) and sent UPS to the door for around 3-$400 or so (cant quite remember the exact price..might be more.)

I sent measurements to 'em and they had 'em built and sent here pretty fast. If you do go this route make sure ya measure right on the money. I was off a little bit on the primarys (where 4 goes into 2) and I just snuck by the steering U joint on the drivers side. I'm talking 1/8th inch or less clearance here.

Might wanna try 'em out

You may be able to use Camaro headers if you are using the stock motor mount pads on the Camaro sub to mount your engine. I've seen subframed cars that mount the engine in a different position than the factory, in that case stock Camaro headers probably ain't gonna work, also if you go with something other than block huggers the collectors may be too hight to clear the floor in your rod, or too low and generate lots of pretty sparks on the pavement just my.02

Measure twice; cut once, ie. "I cut it three times and it's still too short"

Good thought Wayne. I will have to check where the motor mounts are but I think they may be in the stock location on the frame.
AlsoI know the clearance might not work. A little difference between a 79 Camero and a 47 Ford. LOL

I have a set of unused headers for a mid/late 70's Camero. My 49 had a sub installed in it when I got it, but the job was pure crap. So I changed the whole frame out and went to a IFS. The headers are just hanging on the wall need ing a good home. They are in primer right now.
