I need to know what will take silicone brake fluid off so I can paint my firewall. It seems that the vapor leaked from the vent in the lid and contaminated the primer on the firewall. I have sandblasted the primer off, but there still seems to be traces of the fluid in the steel. Lacquer thinner wont work. Maybe a strong pressure washer with some high powered purple stuff? any suggestions? thanks, Dale

try your local parts store. there is a product called
brake kleen, it will clean regular brake fluid off things. you could try it for the silicone fluid. its quite inexpensive. we use it to clean any oils or fluids off rotors , drums, etc.when doing brake jobs.

There are a number of products out there to get silicone off. I use DuPont Prep Sol on surfaces before I start sanding. 3M makes a water based product called Prep Solvent. In your case, blasting the area might have imbedded it into the blasted surface of the metal. If I were you I'd go to a local body shop supply shop and tell them what you've got and let them recommend something. With any of the cleaners its important not to re-contaminate the area with a used part of the rag that might have some silicone on it. Silicone can really be a pain in the butt when painting. It only takes one little speck to cause a fisheye. Good luck
