Month till 1st Show of the year...Time to thrash..

Work continues on my ride exactly 30 days to thrash and get this thing finished off as best I can for right now and pick at it as we go and get it cleaned up and ready to rip outta here April 26th for the first local show....New rear drum brakes are due to be painted up and installed this week hopefully, going after neon inside and out, underneath and all...unless I change my mind in a hurry (kinda in a toss-up right now seeing how my battery and alt. are running everything including the wheelchair ramp and other power accessories, which draw a pretty decent current as it is, so I'm thinking on passing that up cause I dont wanna run a 2nd battery) and I figured while im at it, either A.) Try and find somebody that'll custom make me a aluminum bar grille (less than a quarter inch thick bars running across the 4 grille openings in place of the stock honeycomb screen)...cheap....cheap....real cheap! Or running aluminum gutter material mesh.

This is where a question comes into the mix.....Should I run the every day conventional gutter material mesh Home Depot and all other Home Improvement places sells (decent sized holes) or should I run "tighter" mesh similar to screen door screen material but aluminum (if it's available) and keep it as sealed off as possible so nothing can fly through and punch a hole in my cooling system? Or go with what I can get? Knock on wood I haven't had a problem with anything flying back at me and going through the 1/4"x1/4" hole honey combed grille and busting the radiator, and I see no problems in the future....I hope, but one never knows.

Whats the skinny gang? Should I grab my keys and leave for HD now?

Grant, I use Homers pet screen (nylon) behind the grille of my RR to stop the bugs from making my rad. an insect cemetery. Works great for the bugs, but not for the airflow. Raises the temp quite a bit.

Hi Slammin. When you say gutter material, do you mean the gutter guards for your rain gutters? I know Home Depot has decorative punched sheets (2' x 4'), aluminum and brass to make stuff like home radiator covers or privacy panels, etc. If you're just looking for something to put behind your present grill you might try black nylon screening (same stuff used on commercial bug shields such as Wardlow's). It'll save you from pickin' bugs out of your radiator and provide some impact resistance from stones. Don't know what type of rod/custom you have, but get as much air to the radiator as possible. A sneaky air dam/duct below the grill/front end might allow you to be creative with your current grill opening(s). Louvers? Good Luck. p.s.~ What's the first show (HD?)? Ken Baltes

Ken- 2000 Dodge minivan all fixed up...daily driver weekend cruiser/show'er. Need it seeing how my butts planted in this wheelchair for life LOL. Pic in profile from last fall...updated ones coming at ya soon.

Want to take out the 4 black plastic honeycomb stock grille screens and place some kind of aluminum mesh in their place (screw or tie it on tight from behind so it's not flapping around in the wind falling off...outta sight outta mind so to speak.) Just looking for something that'll clean it up and give it a little bit of an "agressive" look.

First show of the year for me as of right now (unless one sneaks up on me sooner, that in a way I want to happen cause I got the itch, and in a way with the work thats ahead I wanna see April 26th come super slow cause I'll never be ready any sooner) is April 26th, 1 month from today at a local high school...Senior Class fundraiser show that I promised friends of mine that are in the class I'd enter in, and my girlfriend begged me to be ready in time for cause SHE wants to enter, so this time around it's going in her name and IF we do come home with anything (50/50, door price or any trophies) she gets 'em...afterall it's her ride, claimed 3/4 ownership over me the other week, I just dump gas in it, do the routine maintenance and drive it.

Figures...my senior class (2000) were the poorest of the poor when it came to raising $$ and I tried getting a show together, but the hotty totty Senior pres and her crew frowned on it.

I'll check into some kind of screen material at Lowes or HD this weekend.

Thanks guys.
