She instantly recognizes a 32' coupe, appreciates the effort spent on a slick 40' and ohhhs and ahhs over slammed custom. She never complains about how much time you spend in the garage, washes your greasy t-shirts and volunters her old, worn bath towels to the shop effort. She understands why you gotta do the Thursday nite cruise alone with the boys and eagerly greets you at the door upon your return. She sacrifices the new outfit she's wanted and helps you buy the gotta have wheels you wanted. She packs the necessaties for that weekend rod run and then pitches in with the washin and waxin of the car you get to drive all weekend. Yep, she's a Rodder Woman. If you have one, well, you know of what I speak. If you don't have one, keep lookin, although very rare, their out there. Tell us bout your Rodder Woman.
blksheep.....happy Charlotte rodder

My wife and I had been dating about 6 months when we took a 1100 mile round trip to a rod run in my T-bucket. The weather was supposed to be nice, so we left the top at home. The weather was nice until the trip home. 400 miles in a downpour! She refused offers from other friends to ride with them in warm and dry cars. "I drove out with him, I can ride home with him too" was her reply. One month later we did another 1200 mile trip to Yellowstone in it.
That Christmas we were engaged, and the rest is history.
And yes, she'll be coming to Bonneville with me in August this year.
Gotta love a car girl!

Well Dave,Pretty much me, but your not going to that cruise in thur night with the boys and leaving me at home!!!!!!!!!! I go to all cruises and shows, lol and I am always cleaning the car.
Other wise, guess thats what Rob's got, hee hee
I bought more stuff for rob for the lincoln and our harley as surprises or whatever. And got him the wheels he wanted for the 29 too ;) Most of the time he says I'm into it more than him, and his buddies are way jealous, their wives won't do anything!!! ;)
I can tell a "friendly" car from a mile away too!!!
Since rob doesn't use the puter I had to do this for him, lmao

Geez, what can I say? The good Lord must have a Hot Rodder's heart. I wrote some on my wife Pat a while back, how we'd never miss a race at our little bull ring oval, the infamous Islip Speedway, I'm talking 20 years of barely ever missing a saturday night race. And how I taught her how to drive stick in my 66 Tempest GTO. Or what I called at the time, the Poor Man's Goat. I'd hear her leave the house, wind it out in first gear, release the throttle BEFORE engaging the clutch! Boy, those Smitty's sounded hot when she backed off going thru every gear LOL.
She stands behind me in EVERYTHING I do, whether it's starting a new rod, leaving a job, going to whatever and wherever cruise I'd like to go to. Encourages me to go out with my buds to the Barn on Wensday nights. walks hand in hand with me to check out row after row of rods and best of all, all my friends like her better then they like me! LOL. She's got a hell of a personality and truly loves the hobby of street rodding and the sport of Nascar or modified racing. even has to twist my arm now and then to get me to go to a cruise night or watch a race. Has bought me tickets to Pocono, Dover and Daytona. What more can I ask for?
One thing, am trying to persuade her to let me sell the 46 so i can build that knew project I envisioned. this one is pretty cool cause I discribed it to my son this week and just happened to mention it to my friend tonight. He said he'd check with his buddy cause he thought he might have something like what i was looking for. check it out;..
I spoke to Al. It is a 56 Ford with a (around) 78 428 corba jet with a cast iron T10 4 speed, 4:11 ford 9 inch posi. What can I say? It's basically what I wanted to build. I do have other thoughts on what i'd like to do to it but i have a feeling most of what i want to do is already done. Needs paint that I know.......let's see, cheater slicks, Torque Thrusts........I've gotta at least LOOK at it, no? Think I should bring my wife Pat along with me? LOL
Heck my wife of 28 years only wanted to go for a ride in my 57 Chevy. The rest is history. Been with me through thick and thin, of wheeling and dealing cars. Loves my 55 now, say I can't sell it. I think she enjoys it more than I do. But we have a great time anyway.

In the mid 70's my wife, Mary, told me to do something with the 60 Bonneville that I was going to restore or she was going to get rid of it.....we were raising the kids and there wasn't a lot of extra money around. Well, I didn't and she did..I came home from work and there was a check for $15 from a junk yard and the 60 was gone! Around '86, we stopped at a local cruise night. Though she always enjoyed looking at the cars, made the remark "You'll never catch me sitting in a lawn chair in a parking lot".
A few years later I bought my first project car, a 40 Pontiac tudor. Work started in our garage and then moved to a cousin's shop due to the fact that her car had to stay in the driveway. After about 6 months she talked me into bringing the car back home so I could devote more than a couple evenings a week working on it and that her car could stay in the drive. In '93 we went to the Street Rod Nat's in Columbus. On the second day we were there at day break so we could watch the cars coming into the fairgrounds. Later that day she told me she was going back to the car to do some knitting and about an hour later when I went looking for her she wasn't in the car, but sitting in the lawn chair watching the cars leaving. She was hooked.
With other commitments I had and the slow progress I was making on the '40, she saw that I was getting frustrated and suggested that I farm the work out to get it done and a week later a friend offered me his just finished 39 Chevy. Mary talked me into buying it and selling the 40. Over the years since she has offered her idea's of what she would like done to the car. Beside updates that I have made she has offered her own suggestions. Two years ago we had the flames added she wanted after she prowled the car shows and went through the car mags looking at graphics. She asked if I would make a coke trailer for our trips to Florida, 'we could really use the extra room' and 'you know we need louder pipes cause it doesn't sound like a hot rod'. The trailer is under construction and the new mufflers will be going on next month.
Though she doesn't make all the local week night cruises that I do, she does look forward to the weekend big shows [NSRA, Goodguys, BTTF], which we try and make at least one a month.
The Chevy and our 74 Charger [which I stored for 16 years at a neighbors] both rest in our two car garage. Both our daily drivers sit in the drive, with the stipulation that I clean the snow off of hers and warm it up before she goes to work.
She sure did a turn around from the early days and after 36 years together she still surprises me.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
A Wife's a Good Rodder Woman 'cause she knows when to keep out of the garage when I'm thrashing on the car. hehehehe
She's into it. Comes from good stock, her Dad collects antique John Deere tractors, and shows them. And, I think she knows it's not just a fad, and I'm not gonna change. She has bought alot of stuff for the Plymouth, and cried more than I did when I put it on it's lid!

Willy is the very best friend I have in this whole wide world.Doesn't matter what I want to do,or where I want to go,she is with me 100%.When I'm down, she picks me up and when I'm on top of the world, she's there to enjoy it with me.She stands firm in her believes and is unwavering in her devotion. She is not afraid of the shop and has helped me do everything from pull engines to bleeding brakes. In her previous life, she was a judge at the local Jaguar club meet at Mid-Ohio Sports car course.I'll swear she can smell a Jag a mile away! Loves the V-12,"E" type drop-tops. First time we attended a Goodguys show(Columbus)She was like a kid in a candy store. She was amazed at the variety and colors of the cars. She was hooked instantly. She can't tell a Duesenburg from a Model A, and couldn't care less, but she knows what she likes, and has an eye for what looks "right" and what doesn't.
And like every other woman I have ever met,do not pi** her off. She may forgive, but she NEVER forgets.............

Jackie cried her eyes out when I sold the 37 at York. I told her, "what the hell are you crying about? Your car will get done now!" She said,
"I know. But I loved that 37!"
I saved my tears for later, back at the motel after a 1/2 bottle of Bacardis! hehe

As we speak I'm busting butt trying to get my ride ready for the first show of the year April 26th that my girlfriend said we were going to no matter what! And for her to say we're going before I make my mind up and say we're going (which is a few months in advance at least)....that says it all. Devoted........
She dont know it, but I'm entering in her name, and if we..I mean SHE gets anything (door prize, 50/50, or any trophies/plaques) it's hers. I just drive the thing and do the maintenance...claimed 7/8ths ownership as long as I gas it up, do the work and drive it.

I really didn't know there were real "rodder woman" until recently.
When I first met her there was an American Racing Wheels banner in the front window of the house and a Comp Cams banner hanging from the fence in the backyard. She knows the difference between Woody Wood Pecker and the Clay Smith Mr. Horsepower logo, and she know they make cams. There are as many car parts in her house as there are in mine (well almost).
In tha past, cruise night's where always time away from the woman sometimes even a getaway and buying parts and spending time working on projects, where always a battle.
Now we may argue about who's car where taking, who's driving and which events where going too, and who gets to read the latest magazine first when it hits the mailbox, but even when I lose, I win. It's pretty freakin great.

I want to add to the list of great wives and girlfriends. Most of you have really good things to say about your partners, but I don't think any could be better than my wife.
Marilyn is probably as much of a gearhead as I am. In the 30 plus years we have been together she has been a willing assistant in more weird automotive things than most guys have experienced. She has been to every NSRA Nationals except the first one. She owns her own 29 A pickup streetrod which she designed, spec'd, and helped build. (She says she is going to learn to weld so she doesn't have to grind my mess) We have traveled in 40 states in our street rods, and all of them have been either model T or model A's.
We both volunteer on the race medical team at the Mid-Ohio
Sports Car Course so we can be closer to the cars than just spectating. Marilyn has decided to work a couple more years so that we can have a new large garage to work in. She even has been swinging a hammer and helping me wire and insulate the garage.
About the only store that she cannot pasas up is any hardware or old junk yard.
I told you, she is the greatest!!! I love her a lot, and NO, she is not available for loan.
