Attention Goodguys, Rhinebeck Quaestion, NO BEER?
by mrwillys
Posted: 07/23/2003 11:18 EST

Hi. I printed a Goodguys Rhinebeck registration form out this morning. I was planning on sending it today. One thing grabbed my attention. "No Cans, Bottles, or Pets Allowed". Does this mean that I can't take my trusty cooler? I can't drink a beer in the fairgrounds? My wife can't have a soda? Please fill me in. Ed, I know you're familiar with the show, what's the scoop?

Thanks,
Bob

I may be wrong, but I think it's partly due to GGs trying to get a monopoly on refreshment sales on the grounds. Thye want you to buy overpriced drinks from them rather than bring in your own.

Ed, please elaborate. If they don't let participants bring their own beverages in, don't they sell any? Wouldn't that be to the food vendors' advantage? I guess they never said anything about kegs, or, plastic cups. That's an option.

Grant, does WMSRA have a site for info. on Cumberland? It's Thurs- Sun., right. I have an obligation Sat. afternoon, but, I'd like to go Thursday and Friday.

Thanks

Gotcha, shot one back at ya. I guess I'll use the secret compartments that I never cut out when I built the car. At one point, it was a shine car. Poor farmer blew it up running from the cops! Have a good one!

Thurs. to Sun. it is...used to be Mon. for the die-hards..but the cleanup crew got a little upset with WMSRA and the Fairgrounds people having to work around those who hung around. This oughta hold ya over till I find their site....I know there is one.

How on earth would they police this? I used to always take a cup and ice and pour whatever into the cup? Are they going to search every car's interior and trunk coming in? Interesting? This is NOT just Rhinebeck, go thru the list and see it's about every one of them! Hmmmm?

I have never been a fan of bringing pets due to the fact that usually they pee all over everything? And the other too. Frequently this does not get picked up only to find it being slung off the roadsters wheels in your face...LOL!

I am sure that some of this is trash disposal costs these days as well.

Steve, my "pet peeve" is ANY animal that used to pee on my freshly polished aluminum wheels cause the stuff will etch the metal and polishing it out is a real chore. I've hung up the jelly bean wheels in favor of some chrome directionals but I still hate the idea...Enuff so that if I ever caught "Fluffy" going on my wheels, there would be one less Fluffy in this world to worry about..As for the other stuff on the tread part, thats why ya does a burn out on the dirt when leaving!! The front wheels are the worst!Oh yeah, ya dont do the "burn out" in front of others of course!!(cars or people)!

If you look at all the forms it says basically the same thing on all of them. We went to Del Mar in April when we were visiting the grand kids (and their parents too) and it said on the register the same thing so we carried in our huge water bottles in each day without being questioned and saw a lot of other cold beverages in cans and bottles that weren't sold on site. I sure wouldn't worry about it.

Ain't no sneakin about it Bob. Everyone there brings coolers, and I've yet to hear of anyone saying a word about it.
It's only $55 to renew your membership and register for the show if you do it before Dec 1st.

GG'z @ Puyallup was listed as "no cans, etc" but I don't think that slowed too many of us down. I think they were more concerned about "overt alcohol"...
One "sore spot" with me was the ridiculous prices of foot served by vendors....like a buck for 1 donut! Yikes...thats about 1.46 Canadian. Darn good thing I'm following the Atkins Diet........

None of the NSRA shows and many smaller shows held in city parks will not (OK) beer because of liability concerns. If you keep it in a can cooler, nobody will jack with you....discretion is the only way to go.

A good portion of the greed is the owners of the fairgrounds wanting more, more, more. They own just about everything in the 50 mile area. PIGS!

You're right Bob. No one busts b@lls at Nats East about the beer. I brought in "frostys" two or three at a time at the gate in plain sight and no one said a word as long as I covered the label with my hand. LOL Walked around all day with them uncovered and not a word was said. I have yet been to any show where they actually stopped me from drinking my own beer.

No one checked the coolers at Goodguys Indy. We took in A bunch of beer and Food. The bunch that I run with would go bankrupt if we had to buy $5 a can beer.
