I NEED HELP- rules of title transfer
by mrwillys
Posted: 12/01/2003 10:35 EST

I think I have my Willys sold, to a couple in Florida. Question: Can I just sign the title, and, let them take care of it on their end? Or, should I insist that the title is transfered here in PA? What are the risks?

I never sold a vehicle out of state before.

Thanks for any and all help.

They are picking it up. They want me to sign the title, and, they'll take the title to FL to transfer it. I just don't know if PA is cool with that or not.

When I (from Pa also) sold my ranger to a guy in fla I was instructed to have the papers turned over there by my aaa rep...so I had them pay to bus me down, and he rode back on the bus, picked up the truck in pa and drove to fla.

Best bet is to talk to your DMV. Then sign the thing over and watch it roll down the pike while your sittin' back with some long green.

Bob just sign the title over (after you have cash no bank checks) get there drivers lic # and copy the title signed over. Also make out a bill of sale with purchase price and both of you sign it. Now copy it and keep a copy for yourself, Your not going to have any problems with a willys pick-up but some beater escort that somebody dumps on the side of the road is the only problems you end up with. Just be real sure the check clears and you have cash money in your hand before it moves out of your garage. Bank checks or any other checks are garbage!!!! When the new owners get to FLA they will have to have and officer do a VIN verification so make sure the VIN is correct and fastened on correctly. Fla is and easy state. All you need to cover your butt for is that is no longer your truck if it falls off the trailer. Sad to see you lose it buddy, Good luck. E-mail if you have any problems i probly even have the fla reg papers here as we reg a few in fla..: )

I bought an out of state vehicle from Louisiana and he signed the title after i paid him and before i could license it in Wi. i had to have the serial # checked by a cop and i was ok. I choose a city cop over a state cop since their not as strick with their laws.

When you sign the title you may want to do this in front of a notary..just to make the transfer a little easier. That way the Florida DMV won't send it back..I'd also do a standard bill of sale to cover both parties. Good luck!!

Go to your State's DMV website. California has all the information you ever needed to know at it's website.
