just a few off the top of my head

Lots of grass and trees at the venue
clean bathrooms
reasonably priced food
easy access in and out of venues
enough cruzn around room
local community "happy" that the event is in town
a list of good, local resturants

I've been to alot of shows that get awful boring in the afternoons. I would enjoy going to one that has valve cover racing or something of that nature. Even the coin toss for dash plaques that Grant speaks of.....Of course jello wrestling might be fun to watch, too. lol

Hmmmm....Buncha fat beer drinkin' hot rodders rasslin' in Jello....just what I wanna see during a car show..NOT! Unless we're talkin' chicks here....then we might bite. lol

Glad ya brought that dash plaque toss idea up...I completely forgot. Real fun if your into collecting 'em from all over the world (as I have)....add that to my list JW.

Denice, you must have been to a few VW "bug" shows over the years and a VW engine blow is real cool!! grab a loosened up bug motor, drain the oil (or not) and kind of enclose the area a bit(I've seen them really grenade!) and tie the throttle wide open. The money part is betting on how long it takes from startup to blowup and the closest gets a prize... Also, since a bug motor case is 96% magnesium, it will really brighten up a bon fire but I advise using only a half at a time. United Airlines pilots could see it 5 miles away!! course, they see a lot of things anyway and some that are just not there!!!

Personal preference for a good laid back show/party..one day'er or Fri. Sat. Sun. weekend deal..

For us crazy guys............

Burnout Contests-
Flamethrower Contests-
Muffler Raps-
Dances/Food/Drinks-
Rod Jousting- (object is to 1. find somebody brave enough to hang out the passenger window 2. blast down a strip (pretty long one if you can swing it) as fast as you can and 3. the brave soul hanging out the window with the pool stick has to try and spear 3 rings hanging from poles spaced apart x ammount of feet...FYI:If ya do it, make sure the strip has enough at the end to get slowed down..at the one event I've seen this driving game done, there's been a few that got outta hand and had to lay on the binders hard..
Poker Runs- (simple yet scenic routes..if ya have 'em running circles all over the place or the directions are printed in Chinese your gonna have some confusion and alotta angry people, wont be fun at all..seen it for myself a time or two.)
Valve Cover Races- Adult Classes & Kids Class (Separate)

For the women.............

Womens World (Crafts etc..)..most dont like gauking at cars all day..
Adult Games (Volleyball, Baloon toss etc..)

Kids Stuff............

Coloring Contests
Kids Games to keep 'em occupied
Valve Cover Races (see above...) Every show should have an adult class and let them battle it out and let the kids have a class of their own to duke it out in (6 yrs. ago I built one and made it to the Final round only to lose to some guy who had 3x the $$ than I did invested in it...ball bearings and all vs. my conventional "Old School" roller skate wheel set up.

Possibly some rodding related item auctions during the awards ceremony (if ya have awards) if your doing a show for charity...all the money collected would go in their pot.

That just about covers it as far as I can see..

I recall the cumberland jousting events, wild to say the least. in most cases the entrants were drunk so falling out the window was survivable, lol. BTW, Grant, I found my Weekend Warriors membership card the other day! lifetime member, wish there was a date joined on them, must have been 1990 for me.

Cool stuff Emil! It's still a great show to attend, but boy has there been changes to the fairgrounds, all out total redo! The old boys that used to attend like Slick (yellow '34 coupe) Lance "The human pin cushion" (loooong story) 34 Chevy 4 door..and Skip (white & purple '32 Deuce 3 win.) would really be shocked..

Speaking of food, do it like Cumberland does, and some other events I attend yearly (religiously), tie it in with the registration fee. The Western MD Street Rod Assoc. does a breakfast & lunch deal along with a corn roast Sat. & Sun.

If its a 2 or 3 day event try having some special events during the evening hours such as:

If there's a local drive-in movie, have a nostalgia movie night.
Maybe have a cruise-in affiliated with the show at one or more of the towns local hangouts.
Offer cruises around the show grounds during the day to kids. Remember they are the up and coming rodders of the future.
And I agree with Denise on the high priced food. Sure would be nice to get a burger and a drink for under 10 bucks at a show.....

I would like to see:

1)Games for all ages.
2)shade,
3)poker run in the town it's in, or a poker walk in the town it's in.
4)Maybe a cruis through a retirement village, (brings back memories for the seniors)( maybe have the poker run through the village).
5)A good DJ that knows how to work the crowd.
6)scavenger hunt, winner gets a gift certificate at the local resturant.

Rich, what you mentioned is exactly what The Wheels of Time have in Macungie, Pa. One of the absolute best rod runs in the country but now limited to about 2200 cars. they also have mini gas and alcohol burning tractor pullers, fireworks, pool, valve cover races, car teeter totter, buses to the factory outlets for the women, etc., etc.

Johnny, If you need a good "in the know" DJ send me a e-mail. Don't want to spam, but the DJ that was at the Cherokee show last yr, is a very good friend of ours. He is really good. (thats my opinion)!! lol
Let me know if you would like me to put you in touch with him. He has a really neat set up...he also did crusin the coast last yr for those of you that attended that show.

I like anything that encourages people to drive their cars. Poker runs through senic areas are good. The Rapid City SD club has a rod run in the summer I went on once with a big cruise through the hills. 2 groups of about 75 cars each. We were escorted by the Sherrif's office so we didn't have to stop at any stop signs or lights. Several nice stops to get gas, BS, etc.
