I just became a regestered seller on Ebay,up until this point iv only sold a few things out there and i had a friend handle in exchange for labor.I figured i would start with somthing small so right now i have a propane heater out there,it already hit reserve and it has 5 days to go,I listed in the add "buyer pays shipping",how does that normaly get handled,,i just figured on droping it off at Mail Boxs Ect and let them handle and ship it,but what is the best way to get payed???do i wait for a check in the mail before i send it or do i give the buyer my account number and let him transfer the funds??
Tommorow im listing my Mustang out there and if it sells i need to educate myself on how to handle the transaction,,being as we know there all kinds out there and i dont want to get the shaft,,
thanks ahead for any pointers,,,jim

WAIT ON THE PAYMENT FIRST!!! the best thing to do is let them send you a money order. THEN... send them the item. Get the winning bidders zip code, go to USPS.COM,punch in calculate postage, punch in your zip and their zip with the approx weight and size of the package and you willget the shipping amount-email this to the winning bidder and waitfor your check for the total ..good luck

you might want to give them an option on the shipping.....Mailbox's Etc are pretty pricey compared to USPS and UPS. FedEx works good also........Always get your money BEFORE you ship ANYTHING!!! PayPal was getting sorta gready on their charges so I dropped them. I would rather wait a day or so for a Money Order to be sent than to give them a chunk for "Instant Payment". I never accept a check.

I'd like to add another word of caution...if you receive a check, whether it's personal or cashiers, wait the full 10 days for the check to clear the bank before you ship the item. Advise the buyer of this in your email exchange when the auction ends.
Just because your receive a bank or cashiers check does not mean that it's good. There are a lot of dishonest people out there.

I've been selling car parts on ebay for over a year. I got a great deal on over 400 taillights and have been selling a lot of those. I think its fun and a good source of income. I get boxes at a distribution center for free - almost any size box you could want- the taillights are small enough you can send them regular mail-little cheaper than UPS. I send my larger stuff UPS, I send it out at where I work- yesterday I sent 55 chrysler chrome (box size:68x8x20 weight:15lbs) and it only cost $9.00, The price quote on UPS.com estimated it would be $45.00. If you can send it out at a business it is less- bidders apreciate this and you will have no problem recieving positive feedback. I don't use paypal any more due to problems getting money from paypal. I only except cash or money orders now. I allways check bidders feedback just to see if they have been trouble in the past. If you have a problem with them don't list negative feedback unless you want negative feedback on your record- send a complaint to ebay directly letting them know of the problem and they will take car of teh dead-beat bidders- don't have to worry about getting nagative feedback for doing everything correct. Thats just a few things I have learned over the last year, hope it helps a little.

I'm getting ready to sell my two 47 Chevy rechromed bummpers (1 front, 1 rear) and was thinking of putting them on EBay. Should I sell them together or seperately?
Any other tips and suggestions are appreciated.

if I remember correct, they are smoothed bummpers- no bolt heads, I would sell tehm as a set. If they arn't smoothies i would sell them seperate. Or better yet i need a pair for my 48 - be nice and give them to me!! I have 20 origional bumpers that i'm going to send in for cores- get $10 each - will save a little when i get mine chromed.

separately. Remember that UPS has a limit on Length X Circumference = something like 109 or 119". (can't remember). If it makes it, you can wrap the sharp ends with heavy paper or whatever, and make sure there are no sharp pieces.

They're almost 70 inches long, 12 inches around. So does that mean I'm out of luck sending them UPS? Who else would ship something that long?
Jesse, yep, your right. Completely smooth and beautiful. Would you like to put them in layaway and make payments? :))))
Phil, good point about the bidding war. Could work in my favor listing them seperately.

Denise, go to UPS.com and figure the cost. You have to enter the length, width, etc. If it won't go, the website should let you know (I could be wrong about the total inches). BTW, it was Jim that brought up the bidding frenzy.
Last week, I listed two sets of front fender side trim spears for 58 Chevies. One set was a bit beat up, and the other set had one dent. One set listed for $5, the other for $19.95. Both sets went to the same person for $242. Don't know why he wanted both sets...maybe got caught up in his own bidding frenzy.

I think seperate. Chevyman does have me beat when it comes to experiance on ebay,,but i would think if u had them out there at the same time but seperate auctions there may be some one out there that just needs one and sombody else wants the pair and that i think that can cause a bidding frenzy,, :$

Like I said earlier just give the bumpers to me- no money to mess with no fees to pay!!! With the bummpers, I beleive they are smoothed-(I read about the hotrod heaven storry- That has to suck), the bolt holes are filled and nuts welded to the back for mounting. If they are smoothies I would list them together because they are kind of a 'set' plus you would be charged only one listing fee and one closing fee, if smoothies are listed seperately the same bidder would most likely get both to make a set- then you would have to deal with both auctions as one anywase. But then again having them listed seperate could cause the bidding frensy were bidders fight over controll of both- causing the prices to sky rocket- I just convinsed myslef - forget what i said list them seperately!!!! Or give them to me!!!

I don't personally go for the wired money transactions. You really don't want to send our bank acct # to someone you don't know. You can request the money order or cashiers check, then if you wish accept persoanl checks with a stipulation of a 10 day wait period before the item ships. I have sold various items also over the past 2 years and prefer the USPS for the smaller items. Priority mail is great if you know about how much to charge. Then you can price the shipping in your auction and then after the auction, you don't have to answer a bunch of crap about figuring how much more they owe. Also folks seem to buid a little more if the know the exact fnal cost of the item. As far as pricing UPS goes: just figure out the box size and find a far away zip code from your location. Then price it on the UPS website and tack on $5-10 for a cushion. It's not playing dirty if you're upfront about the cost! I once sold a 50 cent matchbook on Ebay and the guy paid $3.50 for shipping (of course it did go USPS priority mail in a larger box), but he knew how much the shipping would be!
Sorry for the rambling but do be upfront over the method of payment in your auctions. It solves most of the trouble if it was already posted when you listed the item.
Good Luck!

I have also done alot of selling and buying on e-bay to fund and gather parts for the car. So far, "knock on wood" things have gone smooth. I deal strictly with money orders, give honest descriptions, leave feedback on all transactions and communicate along the way with my buyers. These ethics have worked well for me but I find that alot of people are not quite as courteous. Once I received a money order for something I sold with nothing but the amount and buyers real name... no idea for days as to what it was for!!! There is some good money to be made out there with easily obtainable items if you know where to look. Seems that some people either have no idea or like the convenience of it showing up on their doorstep. Also, sometimes people have no idea of the value and will actually pay more than the item is actually worth... I like those guys :) As they say "Buyer beware" If it sounds to good, it probably is.
