Where are the serial numbers on the frame on a 1948 mercury? Someone replaced the front with a camero subframe. thanks gator

Gator,
Ford hand stamped the numbers in on the top of the frame,drivers side,at the point that the x member is rivited to the frame rail.
The number is stamped from the outside of the frame so the top of the numbers face the center of the car.
thay are not real deep stampings so if its painted you may have to sand off the paint to find them.
