This stuff comes in black, silver, or clear. And it comes with its own special thinner. Interesting. So does POR15. I'd be willing to bet it is the same formula packaged under another name.

I agree with you Lynn. I've never heard of this paint either. I have used POR15 and it does everything it promises it will do. This new paint may be "as good" as POR15 but I can't believe it's any better. Think I'll stick with POR15 for a while.

It's the first time I've heard of miracle paint. I haven't heard anyone talking about it yet.

I've heard nothing but good things about POR15, actually I have a cruising buddy who talked about it all summer and I can't remember his name so I call him POR15, besides the fact that every time he came out he still had that stuff on his clothing from working on his project.

I have never heard of Miracle paint but have used POR 15 for a number of years on various projects and it really is good stuff..easy to put on with a brush ...self levels and hard as a rock.....brake fluid does not like it but everything else good...even used it on headers and it lasted longer than the usual stuff

Anyone got prices on the Miracle paint?

I've never heard of miracle paint, but I use Miracle Whip in my salads and on my sandwiches. I've used POR15,but the car is still sitting in the garage (if yer not driving it, it's just junk in the garage LOL). I went to that website, and the prices seem to be about the same as POR15, $88/gal.

That paint is the stuff advertised in Hemmings. Bill Hirsch Automotive sells it ( http://www.hirschauto.com/ ). It's been around a long time and I bought some years ago. Since then I've used POR15 and I think they are the same thing.

For what it's worth I've used ZeroRust too and like it because you can top coat over it. I only use it in places like suspension parts and inner panels where I'm too lazy to thoroughly de-rust. Len at Autobodystore http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?index ran some saltwater tests a while back before he decided to sell it, and it came out better than POR15.

Im usually a lurker and occassional visitor but this subject has prompted a response.
Based on add hype I bought 2 gallons of Black POR-15 in Sept 2001 to use on our ramp truck and pickup cum snow plow.
Went on nice since we have the proper equipment to spray toxic paints. Followed all directions to the letter.
Come the first snowstorm and I noted some pits in the paint after we washed the trucks down. After the next snow the POR15 was dissolving in big patches. By the end of the winter you could peel it off in sections and there was serious rust under it in many places.
When I called the distributor who sold it Im told it wasnt intended for "over the road commercial use" HUH. Oh, "its only for antiques and hot rods to keep their frames and floors looking nice" So I ask arent those vechiles driven? "Not really, they just go a few miles a year in sunny weather".

OK write that experience off and prepare to strip everything down and refinish with Rustoleum which in the past usually lasts thru a season.

I visited the big auto fleamarket in Amherst, NH in May and there is a guy selling Zero Rust and he had a crowd around him. I finally get to the front and started on my tale of woe. After about 10 seconds this guy says "And the POR dissolved in the salt didnt it?". Well Ive been in the body shop business 25 years so I played dumb and asked simple questions, then harder ones, then tough ones; he sure knew his stuff and saw thru my act also. Said he used POR with similar results and for that reason became a Zero Rust distributor.

So I buy a few spray cans and take all the flyers, and application notes including that salt spray test you mentioned.
Well I go back in June and get 4 gallons of black. After 3 snow/salt events this season the Zero Rust looks great, Im hoping it will be like that in April, I even did the complete ramp, both sides; and the underside of the pickup bed and fender wells.

Sorry for the long wind, going back into the woodwork again.

I have used all 3. I like zero rust the best. The por 15 and the miracle paint look and work work alike. Jc whitney has zero at 15.95 per qt. or 45.95 a gal. and miracle paint at 37.99 ........ good luck.....cj

You may have the proper equipment to spray toxic paints but it sounds like you're lacking in the area of surface preparation.

I've never had POR-15 chip or peel when the surface was free of scale and grease. I painted the differential in my wagon nearly 5 years ago and it's still just fine.

Now, I wouldn't put it on a plow frame unless it was the undercoat because it's not UV safe. I always put a topcoat of something else over it if it'll be exposed to sunlight. If you read the can, it tells you right up front that it won't stand up under prolonged exposure to sunlight and to cover it with something.

Now, I won't go so far as to say I've never had paint peel because I have but it was my own fault. I was simply too impatient to get the grease and oil off. I've made sure I got it off with every POR-15 application, though, because that stuff's a lot more expensive than a rattle can of Rust-O-leum. I make doubly sure all the scale's brushed off and there's absolutely no oil on the surface then I give it a couple of coats of POR-15.

I've NEVER had a bad experience with POR-15.

Now, that imitation stuff you can buy in Wal Mart, well, that's a different story. It works like it says it will but it's nowhere near as strong and impervious as POR-15.

Peeling paint is nothing new. Since I’ve started working at a body shop, I’ve noticed a few instances of prior work from other shops that’s peeled in places. I guess surface preparation isn’t taught in voc school anymore.

Oh, by the way, are you sure it was the paint peeling and not the metal deteriorating under it because you neglected to coat the back side as well? Are you talking about the plow or the plow truck? If it's the plow, you failed to clean it right. If it's the sheet metal, perhaps it's time for some new panels instead of tiger hair.

Oh yea, you don't get much saltier than being under a daily driver in New England commuting roughly 300 miles a week plus all the side jobs. Whoever told you that salt will eat POR is pulling your leg, big time but if you want to believe someone behind a counter trying to sell you a miracle cure, you go right ahead. I think I'd be a bit hesitant to believe a travelling salesman at a flea market.
