Does anybody still get MP3 files off a share site? The last one I used (WinMX)is shut down and the nephew says, "good luck Unk" as he believes that now-a-days they go down as fast as they go up. I don't do this to often and surely don't want my current files corrupted but would like to find another site. Any direction appreciated...Frank

Try Limewire.com
that's what I've been using lately.

KAZAA is for real a great site for downloading tunes. Have a happy and a safe Christmas from everyone at our place.

Frank, I use Imesh. There a lot of files to share and after two years haven't had a problem [knock wood] with virus'. As Grant said, be careful on KAZAA. Make sure that the file you are downloading is an MP3 and not an SWF. I know two people that downloaded an SWF from KAZAA and it turned all the MP3, MPEG and AWX files into text. Also, make sure your virus scan is up to date and running.

Thanks Chopper. I use to have to turn the Norton off @ WinMX in order to download. I guess I won't be doing that anymore...Frank

I went to Imesh and downloaded the program. Much faster than Limewire; no waiting in line.

Phil,
Limewire and WinMX are a pain in the butt to use. You'll like Imesh much better. Too bad Napster fell. The selection they had was unbelieveable. Almost nothing you couldn't find.

Napster was a good one. Limewire has a lot of waiting. Imesh was easy to use and fast, but it put alot of extra programs on my puter. I just got done removing about 8 that I didn't want. Some were easy, some weren't. Using my Uninstaller program, most required rebooting after each deletion (pain in the arse). Popups covering the screen, etc. Luckily, I've been trying to install a new hard drive the last couple days, and knew most of the usual folders in explorer. If it re-installs these programs the next time I go there, it's out the door.

Hey Frank. Who told you that WinMX is gone? I am on it right now as I post this and it is working fine for me.

Apparently I need help with this stuff. I click on the icon for WinMX (2.6) and it goes to the servers page where it attempts to make connections. None seem to get made and all I do is wait for a reply 2 minutes at a time. I'm talking about the top section which has "Next Peer Cache> front code.com:7719" followed by 3 lines; "0 Remote Connections" "0 Command Connections" "0 Client Connections". That section is in yellow while the rest of the page is red except the gray headers. This has been the status of my MX for over a month or so. I'm not there often. If I go to search nothing happens as I've apparently made no connection. HELP
I checked with the Nef and he stated that Kazza and I'm assuming from what Phil said that Imesh too are spy-ware. That would explain the extra files being down loaded. The Nef suggested I look for "Kazza Lite" unless he's pulling my leg.
I liked WinMX and would like to get to it once again.
Thanks for any HELP...Frank

Go to www.winmx.com and download the newest version 3.31. That is the one I have and the one my son uses all the time.

FatCat; It just won't download and I don't know why. It looks like it is going to download and then goes to another page that is blank except for a square (1/4" & 3 colors) in the upper left corner and that's it till I hit the back button. If I go to the WinMX program and delete it will I screw anything up ? My music is in a separate folder and most is also to CD backups....Frank

Boy am I dumb. Of course it downloaded (many times) and now I have to install it. Yea, that's giving me a problem connecting but I'll hopefully work through it with success. Thanks and I'll let you know if my ISP has blocked it like they stopped offering the Playboy channel on their Cable setup...Frank

OK, it's up and working. Apparently I had to upgrade and still have to turn off the Norton internet security to connect and go on line with it to download files. Not the anti virus. Norton wouldn't let me download the new program either. Thanks folks, Frank

WOW, after reading the fine print I dont think so. Known third-party applications bundled with this download include GAIN, Cydoor, Hotbar, eZula TopText, New.Net, CommonName, SideStep, NetPal, FavoriteMan, VX2, FlashTrack, and BonziBuddy. To use iMesh, you must also install these bundled applications. There fine print.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not interested in all those downloads "spy-ware". That's why I was happy to find WinMX still up and running even though it wasn't for me until I got the latest upgrade and finally (computer dumb) got it installed....Frank
Hello, just checked on winmx was working for me at 10am cst 12-24. If you do start using kazaa make sure it is the lite version as the full one has spyware in it.
hope this helps

Thanks Red. I guess there is a lite afterall. I've been trying to get MX to run all morning with no luck. I found a later version that I've tried to download without success. I;m going to keep trying....Frank
