DUH! IT'S DRY!! It wont melt! LMAO J/K....I know it'll last the better part of a weekend at least during showtime. A local boy used to fog us out indoors every year at a car show....I'm still wiping my eyes and coughing up steam 10 years later.

Dry ice is not made with water. It's made out of carbondioxide. Therefore, it dosen't melt,,,,it goes from a solid to a gas and skips over the melting part. Dave

I know that 25# of dry ice does not last long in 30 gallons of water! Found out a few weeks ago in an emergency drill at work in conjunction with the local fire departments. All went well and talk about fog. The hard part was convincing a firemen driving a fork truck that he was supposed to spill the drum for the drill. We had several people in a panic since they were not in on what was about to take place.

The process of going from a solid to a gasseous state is defined at sublimation as one prudent poster pointed out.

Thanks to ALL of you (jokers or not). I have to send 15lbs of frozen meat to New York for a customer and I didn't know how much to put in to keep it solid.

Go to your local grocery store. They have things deliverd in dry ice all the time. Probably can even get it free.

And I think vaporize was the proper term.

It would be safe to send in a plastic beer cooler with bubble wrap around the meat so they don`t get freeze burn from the dry ice. Insulate the inside of the cardboard box you send it in with the same wrap around the cooler.

Phil55 beat me to it..Sublimation: a material that turns from a solid to a gas without going thru a liquid stage........so there! lol like ice on a road that even in freezing weather will dry up.. sometime after you have already slid on it !!

Which sounds better: He sublimated in front of my eyes or he vaporized in front of my eyes?

Doesn't just have to be a material that goes from solid to gas. Remember when your Mom hung clothes on the line in winter and after freezing solid they eventually dried? Or should I say sublimated?
