35 Chevy Body Width

I put my 35 Chevy 3 Window coupe body back on the frame today. I'm not sure how wide the body should be at the back of the door openings and at the front of the door openings. My body is just a shell, so I'm not sure if the body is suppose to stay tight against the frame or ???

There are two "L" shaped brackets on the outside of each frame rail that I posted about a while back that were identified as body mounts. The rearmost body mount must have mated with some kind of bracket on the body that I no longer have and the frontmost bracket is in the door opening, so I have no clue what bolts on to that one.

In the past someone cut out "slots" in the body so that it would fit over the frame. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not. If anyone can tell me how the body bolts to the frame I'd appreciate it!!

You had wood that went between the body and frame! And then it was all bolted to the frame!

Ahhhh....The key words are "You had"!! OK, I'll have to figure out how wide it was and make up some steel to replace the wood that used to be there.

Wow!! Looks like if they had plywood back in those days, they would have finished it off entirely in wood and forget the metal!! Didn't realize there was so much wood in them there things....Wonder if anyone offers a "wood" kit for the oldies and if it wood be worth replacing it???

Theres companys that offer wood inner structure kits....as for all out wood CARS...I think thats a "Do it yourself" project if you've got alot of time, and super woodworking skills. Closest to all wood, I've seen is a '68 Chevy C-10 woodgrained. Brown paint then hit with a grain brush from front to back, top to the bottom, inside and out...even the valve covers, air cleaner heads and block were grained with high temp paints I imagine.....then slaps a chrome oil pan and aluminum trans to it to finish it off. You'd think if ya gone that far you'd paint just two more pieces. lol

Fred they do make wood kits for the ole cars but they are HIGH dollar! I talked to a guy in Pa. he wanted 540.00 for the 2 pcs. that went between the body and frame and 300.00 for the pc. that went around the back window on my 36 but I have a young man (age 15) that is stuck in a wheelchair that is a wonder with wood! He built mine all for less than 300.00 and I gave him a 100.00 tip! And he's willing to try anything as long as you have 75% for a pattern!
