suspension noise

I need a little help. I have developed a popping noise in the front end of my 48 Dodge. Has the Fatman stub with Mustang 2 power rack. Developed at a car show this past weekend. Bounce the car and on the upward stroke the popping is there but on the downward stroke it is not. Had 6 guys and an NSRA rep trying to figure it out in the motel parking lot. Cannot feel the noise in any of the suspension parts by hand. Driving in the rain has no affect on the noise. Can hear it over radio and exhaust. Has about 1700 miles on car. Thought it might have been ball joint but couldn't feel it there. Anyone else ever have any similar problems like this? Thanks

Have heard a sound similar to this from internal defect in shock absorber valving . Try disconnecting one end of the shock absorber one at a time ,they don,t have to be removed completely to find this. If thats not it and you have flat puck style of body mounts with self locking nuts see if the noise changes by spraying some WD40 at them, possibly nuts are bottomed out on bolt threads and not compressed enough. Let us know what you find.

I think it was an upper ball joint. Talked to guys at Fatman Fabrication today. said to grease the heck out of the ball joints. Did that and so far so good. Will wait to pass final judgement until I put some miles on it. Thanks.

If it turns out to be that upper ball joint use the hi moly grease, less chance of any gauling to continue if there was a bit of metal pickup starting from a too tightly assembled joint
