Alright you book gurus, breakout your cross-reference catalogues.
I just picked up a rare open Chevy rear end from a 1st series '55 Chevy pick up with the 3.90 gear for my '54 pu.
The plan is to do all the usual maintenence prior to installation, like axle bearings, brakes, maybe drums. What I want to know is how much of that stuff was used into the later years ('60's -early '70's)? I have heard that some of the drums were used into the early '70's for some trucks. I want to maintain the 6 bolt pattern, but am interested in maybe converting the everyting to disc. If all I can get is drums for this rear, then I'll do the combo. At the least I want to bring it up to snuff. The kicker is, I know that I can get most of theis stuff through places like Cehvy Duty, but if I can get it at NAPA or some real parts store like it, I think it will probably be cheaper. Any ideas?
