How can I drag it out?? Portable winch ideas???

Ok guys I have a little problem. In my travels I have found not one but TWO 64 Chrysler Imperials for demo derby. These puppies are axle deep and I am unable to get a rollback to them. I need to figure out a portable winch setup that I can chain to the hooks on the back of the 4x4 to get it pulled out enough to drag it onto a trailer.Nobody I know has a trailer with a winch. I don't want to spend a ton just to get them out of a one time use deal. And yes these suckers will NOT come with just a comealong..just too damn heavy.

Try using a jackall and raise the back of the barge real high , then place some wood blocks between the spring and the frame on each side to keep it raised up when your dragging it , if the tires are flat try filling them up even a couple holding air is better than nothing

Will an old-fashioned chain hoist serve your needs? ....Most of them have a good reduction ratio for heavy lifting.

I realize they are awkward to use in a horizontal positon, but I have done it. You just need to NOT tangle the chains!

If the "Imps" are that tough to move, you may end up dragging the 4x4 toward them. You may need to chain the 4x4 to a nearby tree, or attach the hoist to a tree, or both.

Hey finally something I can put my two cents in. Try using a high lift jack,(bumper jack). Jack up one end as high as the jack will go, then set the tires down on something solid. ie. doubled plywood. You'll have to use a 2 by 10 or anything that will keep the base of the jack from sinking. Repeat this on the back of the car. Now that you have the vehicle up and out of the mud, you need to build yourself a plywood road to more solid ground. Yes plywood isn't exactly cheap, but if there is housing developments near you, you can usually get all the scrap from your local contractors, who have to get rid of it any ways. If you're located in Ohio, I'd be willing to help. E-mail me if so.

I helped a guy i know build a removable winch for his trailer. If you're good with a MIG welder, it should be pretty easy to do. I can post detials and pictures if you want, just let me know. For a winch i think we used a 4000lb WARN. The thing works great and the guy hauls old tractors with it all the time.

Boy, are you stuck! Without a Come- Along, mounted on a truck, you're gonna need a winch. Seems to be that simple. Jacking it up and placing on solid surface seems like the ticket. Are the tires flat? Take a portable air tank along. Pump those babies up.

There's just one problem...only 2 wheels so far. I'm thinking an old ford wheel or 2 may fit.

Making a "dead man" for a winch is easy but a little digging is required...at the appropriate distance from the car, dig a trench crossways to the car and bury a log or piece of phone pole in the trench leaving just enuff room in the middle to get a winch cable under and around the log and to the car..I've done this years ago but the car also had 4 good tires under it.. the deadman log never budged..
Being what it is, removing the engine should let it float outof there!!! What size hemi is it and are they going to be usable when the demo derby is over??? Have fun! Derby cars are guaranteed to get all the built up agression out of you...you might even call Ed "Dad" when thru!! lolol
