Could this be a bad wheel bearing?

Since I first completed (never really done)my car last spring I've put up with an annoying sound that I just assumed came from the motor or transmission. The sound comes and goes at a consistent frequency such as with each rotation or so of the tires. The best description of the noise is "RRRRRR". I would say that I do not notice it as much below 35 as I do at 55. This past week-end another noise started that I had not previously notices. When making a sharp left I get a rubbing sound, does not happen on a sharp right. It makes no difference what speed I'm turning at, pulling into a parking spot or turning onto a side street. I figured a tire was rubbing but can find no marks on either front tire or body or chassis parts. Even checked at a dead stop with the wheels turned and can find no rub. Now I'm wondering if there is a connection between the two. I get no vibration like an out of balance tire.

Thanks.

Last evening I removed the front wheels, rotors, etc and checked the bearings. I found nothing that looked like a bad bearing. No fleaks of metal, burns, whatever. When replacing the right rotor I took one last look at the rotor and noticed the inner surface, inner edge of the surface had a grove forming. Appears the rotor is making some contact with the small flange on the lower control arm. Contact looks to be the worst on a sharp left turn. Not sure if this is something I had since last summer or maybe I just never did a sharp left until this past week-end. I'm guessing this may also be causing my other noise. Went ahead and reasembled everything, as if that may magicaly make the noises go away. Will most likely be taking the right side apart and grind the flange a little to gain some clearance.

While its apart maybe spray a bit of crack penetrant at the radius of the spindle area to make sure this is not what has caused your rotor posistion to change. Cracks seem to mostly start at the bottom side , look carefully from bottom up.

Had same problem with stock MII lower control arms and dropped spindles . Ground the flange and it went away > Good luck . Wink
