413 RB Engine ID ????????
by lynn
Posted: 02/26/2003 17:15 EST

We have a 413 RB engine that came out of a motor home - we are trying to find the Id # - block casting # or whatever it has to idenify it. All we've found so far is GT 413 and 10 29 under that - it is on a little plate in front of engine on drivers side (to to speak) I have looked and looked, scrubbed & scrubbed and still haven't found anything else, except for RB stamped on left front of motor. No idea what the "GT" stands for either. Yes, I've looked at a million web sites and can't find where to look for any more info and I can't decode anything until I find the engine ID it appears :-( Can someone please please help me out ?? I'd sure be grateful ! Thanks

PS: Don't see as that matters, but it came out of a 1972 Dodge Sightseer

OK- let's say for the sake of argument that it is a Mopar product since it came out of a Dodge. Have you contacted anybody at a Dodge dealership and asked where to locate a casting # for a 72 413 block? Is the rest of the drivertrain all Mopar? I think that may lead you to your answer, I'm not too familiar with the casting #'s etc but I do recall a 413 BB called a wedge motor from back in the late(?)60's.

Not sound like a smart a$$,what do you need to decode? If it is year/date,that should be on the small rectangular shaped pad just beside the distributor. That pad will have a serial#,bearing size insignia, year code, and possibly an HP or an HP2 if it is a high performance engine. Block casting # is on the side of the block. On the RB engines that is on the passengers side I believe. M D H clock is on that side also. Motor home blocks are also supposed to have a litte extra beef in the sides of the block(rumor?)I have never seen one that appeared any different from a passenger car or a marine block. If you need more info, try www.moparts.org ,go to the archives, engines, big block.Loads of info on that site.

Well I would like to know what the casting # is for 1 thing, and what the "GT" stands for -- so far can't find anything on either side of block but 7.17.70. which is cast into the motor prob the date ? if that;s so then no idea what the 10 29 under the GT 413 means :-( Well went to mopar - went to imperial -- went to a million other places - posted on boards all over and still so far no luck -- but I do appreciate the replies for all of you - THANKS !

You have probably already been there but on the chance you haven't, there is a link on the Imperial site to "Year Ones" Mopar engine ID site. Ton of info there.

Lynn, If I am not mistaken, the casting # is the part #.If you are talking about the 8(?) digit # that is cast on the side of the block. On the GT portion, a "G", is the date code, "G" was for 1971? That would make it "G"=1971 and "T" = truck. HP/HP2 is high performance,MR is marine,S is standard and P usually meant passenger car,but not always. What year is the motorhome chassis? Remember that a lot of motorhome chassis are a year earlier that the build date on the body. The 7-17-70 is the date the block was cast. The 10-29 is the month/day it was machined/assembled. Any help?

I once had a 1972 "Roadrunner" motorhome and it was a Dodge truck chassis and a 413 motor rated at 275 HP but never saw a torque rating on it..The motorhome was 28' and that motor would push that big thing onto and down the road
with no problems at all. I aways wondered what it would be like to own a light (2000lb) car with a motor like that in it!!!!One of the reasons for getting rid of it was the rough ride (after all, it was a truck) and the fact that it got 8MPG just sitting in the driveway!! Same on the road..lol...Couldn't really use it in the winter and it would sit there doing nothing (but eating gas) and eating insurance money! lol. Getting rid of it was about the same feeling as getting rid of a boat....wish I could help but will be watching closely since I've seen a couple of 70's motorhomes for sale at fairly cheap prices and gas costs seems to be the overlaying theme for getting rid of them!
I think they were the predecessors to the 440's and that was a ton of torque and in a light car.....well, everyone knows the rep they had!!
