Thought you all may want to know what I've been doing the past few weeks. Working on getting the dash and firewall stuff done on the 'sledd so that when my tax money comes, I can get another 400 trans and drop in the powertrain and the '54 will be a runner again. It's a lot nicer to be doing bodywork on something that is again a driver instead of free-form garage art.
Also been updating my website as I get things going together on the 'sledd, see it at www.angelfire.com/extreme3/drchop for the latest pics and ideas I've come up with...
Hopefully well on my way to debut the car at Indy GoodGuys this coming June...

Nice work Doc...good to see some imagination still exists in the rodding world....see something that looks like it'll do the job then attack it...even if its not related to a car.....as in the gas bottles.....BTW, don't appologise for using bondo...we all use the stuff but some don't admit it..I think it gets a bad rap by rodders..personally I think its a God sent for us that don't know...or don't want to spend hours trying to persuade metal to go into the shape you want...If done right and moderately, the art of (bog) bondo shaping is an aquired art....not just smearing the stuff on then sanding back...there's more to it.:-)

Bondo? Whats that? Us real craftsmen don't need to use anything like that--LMAO!
I was in Barris's place back in the late 60's and the joint looked like a flour mill inside.

I hear ya Alan...
I like doing the metalwork, and always try to get the steel within a few (3-5) MM of the final contour. When it comes to spreading the mud and sanding it down I always seem to do the same area 2-3 times tho. Course, I like to think of it as 2-3 'thin coats' to sneak up on the shape...
Some people are just gifted at filler work, and make it look easy. I'm not one of those, so I try to get the metal as right as I can.
Thanks Ed, this freebie kustom is gonna be one wicked mutha when I'm done with it. Looks way different from a stocker '54 Ford, who'da thunk it?
Denise, this is what I have to look forward to doing next, thanks to the rust and the radical channeling job...
OK, UBB code does'nt work here, do I have to use the < and the > here with the IMG tags? Like on a standard website for HTML?
Or is that not allowed either?
How does the insert image box do it, so I can add more than one to a post?
Obviously, the [/img] on the end of the pic addys is no good... ignore that or clear it if you cannot link directly...

Jay, it's been a while since I checked your progress. You've been busy. As usual, you're creating another one of a kind DrChopMobile. The shop teacher that gave you that nickname hit the nail on the head. Flame throwers on those tail lights will definitely be a trip. Maybe we should tell the Discovery channel about you and they can do a Monster Garage type series with you as the main man instead of Jesse :-)
See ya at Indy.

I don't think Discovery would do a series with me, my garage is usually messier, and it seems they have a problem with filming after 11PM, which is when I do my best work...
I'm just happy it all seems to be coming together fairly easily. I just hope I can get it all done and plated again before June. And get in a little road time before then to get any 'new bugs' sorted out.
So far I'm a little behind schedule, where I think I should be with it. Waiting on my tax money to come in for more stuff to get it done, so in the meantime I'm doing what I can like the dash, column, etc. Almost too cold to work in the garage for any length of time, the bottom of the door does'nt seal the wind out very well and since it faces south...
As long as SOMETHING is happening I'm doing pretty good. I'm a lot more motivated lately, since I'm not working on cars for a living any more. I've done more this past month than in the previous 2 or 3, since doing the chop/channeling work.
Off to put more job apps in, the economy being the way it is has really put a damper on the Classifieds. The whole Help Wanted is like maybe 2 columns... 8^(

Thats my favorite part of this hobby, making custom things like the dash - looks good Jay. I'm goingto make one for my 48 pretty soon- not sure what to do yet but i might just start throwing stuff together- i have an extra dash if i get to caried away. I use filler alot on my home made bikes, probably a 1/2 gallon on my most recent(usually sand a lot of it back off) I'll have to get some pics of it.

Your "top-less" cruzn buddy, Denise
Doc, I'm in awe of your ideas and the work that's been done!! An inventive mind is never at rest and I would be willing to bet that you have (like the rest of us) have gone off into dreamland thinking about how to get something done...and on a tight budget too !!!!
The '28 is the neatest "in yur face" car I've seen yet..
Wonder if ya could put a small plow on the front and get a few businesses to pay ya to keep the parking lots cleaned up! Additional income.....
I'll be looking forward to more "shots" of the '54 and love the Caddy motors too..
