It is getting time to find windows for my 34 dodge coupe and while I was talking to a retired Chrysler dealer, he told me he had a pile of old safety glass in his shop.
Some of the glass are windows that had been removed for cars, but some is just blank sheets of safety glass.
The glass was there when he bought the shop and he didn't know how to cut it. Does any one have any experience cutting safety glass?
Thanks

If you're cutting a straight line, score it like you would with single paine, but on both sides. Snap on the score line, then squirt in some lighter fluid in the crack and light it. This melts out the saftey plastic. You could also use a razor blade to cut it, but melting is easier. Dave

What about curved glass? as in wraparound windshields. Could you still score both sides, maybe a little deeper or maybe use a diamond cutting blade in a grinder.Anybody tryied this or heard of it working ?

If you have a reputable auto glass place nearby, Save yourself alot of time by letting a professional do the cutting and edging. It`s not that expensive to have that done. If you have the time and patients and alot of extra glass, Then do it yourself. It is kind of nerve racking to do.

I took my windshield to a pro,,,,,,,cracked it while cutting. Took the second one to different a pro that did this sort of thing alot. He broke it in half. (at least that is what I was told. I never got the window back) The next windshield I get (if so lucky) will be cut buy me with a wizz wheel (muffler saw) and a spray bottle of water. what the heck,,,,,,nothing to loose. Dave

I got you beat, Dave. Went through 9 passenger door glass panels in the panel. The shop broke 2 by accident (sat on one believe it or not) and the other 7 we busted while fighting the power windows tooth and nail. Kept getting the track off center in the door and the window would fall into the door panel and bust when we hit the switch and it jumped.
Words of wisdom..........Let a pro do it.

If you remember, Emil, theres a guy out of Frederick Md. that had/has a '29 A Roadster HiBoy with Deuce grille, red in color, powered by a 302, big 'ole tires out back ect..that used to attend Cumberland every year. He'd joust and drive around town with the aviation helmet and goggles on, even though it had a windshield. Couple times after a lap or 20 around the fairgrounds or after jousting, he was too drunk to remember to take the helmet and goggles off...walked around in them Fri. afternoon and most of Sat. one year.

Try the whizzer on a piece of broken saftey plate glass. Keep the whizzer cool with water and wear DOUBLE eye protectin. Gota guy here that cut the windshield in a 48 Buick that way and came out nice, but ya gotta go slow. Dave

I wish we had a glass shop close. but the nearest one is about 100 miles away. So I quess it is out to the garage to experiment. I'll tell the wife to keep the kids in the front yard so they can't hear me if it cracks.
Heard that a person could use a sand blaster and etch away the glass, worked but real slow and the glass cracked. The crack may have been my fault by putting to much pressure keeping the board I was using to keep the sand from pitting the piece I was cutting out.
I will have to try the score and set on fire technique. I wonder about scoring with a die grinder so I could score it deep?
Thanks
