cam duration

im going to put a new intake carb and cam in my truck what would yall suggest for a duration i was thinking 270 would be good and roudy but still tame enuff for my stock torque converter n e help will be nice ohh also what intakecarb would yall sugg i gotta 5.0L 302 1984

I would recommend you call whichever cam company you are thinking about using and tell them what your setup is. That way,you do not end up with a cam that is so big you have to worry about valves hitting pistons OR about buying a bigger converter. To much duration and you will not have enough vacuum to run your power brakes.......and I personally think stopping is pretty darn important.You gonna do anything else to the engine,like pistons and rings,check the bearings in the bottom end,valve job?
