If you like NASCAR, and will be in York, PA for the NSRA Nats East, you might want to check this out. Williams Grove Speedway is 40 minutes from the York Expo Center. This event will be held on Thursday, June 5th, the night of the kick- off party.
TONY STEWART & DAVE BLANEY COME TO THE GROVE, Added Show June 5
In an added program, Williams Grove Speedway will host one leg of the Carquest Stewart-Blaney Four Race Series on Thursday evening, June5.
Other facilities participating in the series include Lebanon Valley Speedway, West Lebanon, NY, New Egypt Speedway, New Egypt, NJ, and Sharon Speedway, Hartford, Ohio.
NASCAR stars including defending Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart, former World of Outlaws champion Dave Blaney and Busch star Mike McLaughlin will compete for the Champions Challenge Cup at Williams Grove in big block modifieds against some Eastern sprint car racers, who will be representing the Pennsylvania Posse. The local team will be announced in the next few weeks.
Rich Pallai, vice-president of marketing for Carquest, has stated that he and Carquest are pleased to be involved with the concept of bringing Winston Cup to dirt tracks.
"With the extent of professionalism that these events are managed, and the talent of drivers like Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney and Mike McLaughlin, this will be one of the finest shows to be seen anywhere.".
Stewart, Blaney and McLaughin will join Stewart's Winston Cup crew chief Gregg Zipadelli and television personality Matt Yocum in a pre-race autograph session.
The Dave Blaney Outlaw Driving Experience two-seat sprint car will also be at Williams Grove on June 5 and race fans will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for rides around the historic half-mile clay speedway.
Profits from the raffle will go to Zippy's Crusade for Kids, a charity backed by Zipadelli. Gregg and Nan Zipadelli founded the nonprofit organization to assist children in need.
Zipadelli's parents, Chick and Diane adopted an abused little girl when she was three. Over the past 14 years the family has seen first hand how much it takes to raise a disabled child. This prompted Zipadelli to help other families in need. The Connecticut-born Zippadelli now has a son of his own and realizes just how special every child is.
"Tony and I are making a commitment to help other children and families in crisis," said the Winston Cup champion crew chief.
In addition to the Champions Challenge Cup race, a complete program of sprint car racing will be presented as part of a two-day event in which the drivers will have an opportunity to win $10,000.
Thursday night's program will be a point race for the Cindy Rowe Paintless Dent Repair track championship. The first four finishers will be locked into the final two rows of Friday night's feature, which will be starting positions 21-24, with Thursday's winner starting dead last.
If one of those four drivers can win on Friday night, June 6, his victory will be worth $10,000.
