car show likes, and dislikes

Since Slammin had everyone thinking about favorite activities at car shows, I was wondering what ideas, suggestions, comments, judging styles, awards, what to do, what to see, etc that everyone has seen at their local car show. Or any idea that you had for something that would be fun for a car show to do. Everything from what makes you go to a car show and what keeps you coming back from year to year. For instance kickoff party or not, single day or two day, lots of trophies or none, limited to vehicle type or open to all.

I personally like 'em all....Pre '49 Street Rod Runs, Pre '72 Rod Runs/Car Shows (local and national), Local open shows & cruises ect...If I dont have anything to do, and ya need me? Thats where you'll find me every weekend.

As for Judging and awards, this is where alot of apples go bad so to speak. As stated above, Anything with cars, I'm there. The cars and the people is what it's all about. These $12 hunks of plastic are in all honesty a waste, Why? Because in every show there's two or three that cry moan groan and complain not two seconds after the last trophie/plaque or whatever is given out how their cars better, they've got enough invested in their cars to pay off the National Debt and our cars aint worth it, and they wont leave till they get a trophy. (Seen it with my own two eyes in the early 90s at a local show) Granted, dont get me wrong, I've won quite a few over the last few years just by dumb luck, and I'm sure we all can agree, theres no better feeling than to be picked. Kind of a 15 seconds of fame sorta thing. In my eyes? If I win, I win...If I dont? Oh well! I still had just as much fun as those who took home an award, if not more! Theres up's and down's when it comes to different Awards Classes. Goes along with what they call 'Trophy Hounds'...So I say either give up Top 10/20/50 Trophies and let that be it. None of this Best Paint, Best this, Best that stuff...it's a headache trying to keep everybody happy. And if you DO do the trophy/plaque thing, let the spectators or participants pick and NO voting for yourself (seen that happen too many times also along with best friends.), cause if the club picks a car and somebody else dont like it, the club or whoevers running the show is gonna get a ear full, I can guarantee it.

What keeps me coming back? Chances are it's either the people, or the event in itself..without the people, you wouldn't have a fun time at all. And as for the events, everybodys got something they like about them, wether it's the scenery (at the show or going to/from the show) or all the things that happen at the show (games, prizes, good times ect..)

Single day or Weekend? I like 'em all..

You can't please them all, so we quick tring at our car shows. Some want trophies, some want wall plaques, some demand dash plaques. These people, as far as I'm concerned, have missed the whole point of car shows and cruise-ins. It's the people and cars! I love to look at cars and talk to the owners about how they built them. Whether it wins a trophy or not does'nt change my opinion of the car. There's something strange when a person pays twenty or thirty dollars to get into a car show and then complains when he doesn't when that $12.00 plastic trophy. The trophy shop is where he needs to spend his money. If thats what he came for then he can't be having as much fun as me.
At some shows I see people stack every throphy the cars ever won around the car. I will not waste time looking at those cars. We might be better off not haveing any awards. Bet we would have happier people in the long run.

Likes:
Variety of pre- '72 Vehicles
Decent DJ or Band
Good Food
Enough parking, not squeezed together
Blessing of Mother Nature with nice weather
50/ 50 Drawing or Raffle
Poker Runs

Dislikes:
Ricers
Pathetic or Annoying DJ
Power Parkers
Snobby Wallet Rodders
Rain
No Beer Allowed
Shows where awards are the emphasis, like money jugs in front of cars, good to raise money for charity, bad for somebodies ego
Goodie bags with worthless keychains, note pads, and pencils, they end up in the trash. Try coupons for oil changes, or, a ticket for a door prize. Parts Catalogs and DSRA Calendars. :)

I just love a Show n' Shine at a drag race. Especially like the GoodGuys March Meet. Great cars, great nostalgia racin', and good stories from great people who are willing to share them. Also love those early morning cruise-ins on a weekend... NO TROPHIES, NO 50/50, NO RAFFLE, NO NOTHIN'. Just cool cars and people.

I dislike people who are just plain rude! "He shoulda done this", "Why would he do that?", blah, blah, blah!

Everyone is different and everyone's car is different, but one thing we all have in common, the pride on our faces when you see a picture of us standing next to our cars!

1) coupons for diners?
2) coupons for hotels?
3) list of today's activities. like where the poker run will be and what time.
4) maybe a cross word puzzle for the guys/gals that sit allday?
