MAIN EVENT Videos..

What happened with Main Event Video Productions? All through the 90's I bought just about every rod run/racing tape produced, and all of a sudden around '99 or '00 they disappeared from video store shelves everywhere. Are they still in business and making videos?

I personally will not buy any drag racing tape made by main event video - reason being that they dub over the racing sounds with music. Most drag cars ive seen run in person dont have a rock concert coming out of the headers going down the track. It still amazes me how many tapes have poor quality engine sound very few of these coneheads covering the races have figured out that to get the right sound it should be recorded from a distance say at the top of the grandstands and not right next to the cars especially alchol on up. Also on the bonehead list of the so called professional videos is panning the camera so a 200 mph pass looks like the camerman is walking beside the car. Yawwwwwn. Ive seen many homemade tapes done the way it should be and am now convinced that some of the so called pros should stick to covering golf events. Wont buy any drag tape without previewing it first now. Rod event coverage tapes are usually less chancey because of the slow show nature but the odd tape still gets screwed up by overcoverage of the village idiot driving for example a garbage truck with chrome sidepipes and a few decals in the side window who happens to be the camermans twin brother.

If ya want GOOD rod run, and drag racing videos, give my buddy "Video Bob" Huff, who used to run Action Video, a shout. He's got a ton of rod run stuff along with drag, and some monster truck/tractor pull/mud bogging events dating back to the early 80's (I've got most everything he's taped). Ya dont have to worry about music interfering with the engines...the roar of the engine(s) IS the music outside of some trivia and some songs depending on the video (rod run/car show videos are mostly 50s & 60s music with trivia except for a break here and there if theres a driving game (jousting from Cumberland MD's Labor Day Run, a muffler rap, or flamethrower competition) while the drag racing and other racing events are just that...95% racing. E-Mail me and I'll give ya his E-Mail..
