There's a problem in my area with goofy bastards not using their mirrors or turn signals when they're driving. I'm looking to upgrade my horn...how loud is loud enough to get the "I'm on the phone, screaming at my kids, drinking my double latte coffe not paying attention to the road" drivers attention??? I'm not sure how loud my 01 Silverado's horn is but I have the option of 110db,130db,135db and 140db....what do you guys think??

If you run a 140 decibel horn, it is going to be so freakin' loud, you won't have to worry about people hearing it. It will make people jump.

Do you PROMISE?????? Maybe I'll just put a cattle catcher on the front (like on a train) and that'll fix it.

I bought an air horn setup from jcwhitney years ago, for my pickup. It has the separate compressor and air tank. I think it's around 130 db, and it does get people moving. If I remember right, it has at least 100# of air in the tank, which makes it much louder than the compressor only horns.

It would be great if their license plate number was their cell phone number. It would make it a whole lot more fun.

Back in the 80's and 90's a fellow from Ohio used to head east every Labor Day weekend to Cumberland MD for the WMSRA Round Up in his '37 Chevy coupe. This cat had the same locomotive whistle setup, and man was it ear piercing! Walt would turn it on on occasion all weekend and made sure he turned it on to Joust. After I dont know how many passes we asked 'em what all that noise was..his reply? "I dont hear nuthin'!". Musta went through 500 pounds of air from Thurs. to Sun. cuz I know he refilled the 10 pound air tank 50 times! LOL...gas stations loved'em! Neat ol' hot rodder, Walt is.

I like that idea!
I hate bumper stickers, but I saw one I liked.
It said,
"Could you drive any better if I shoved that cell phone up your arse?"

I think that should be LAW!! I vote Ed for President!
Here's a good'n for ya.......I'm standing at the counter of my favorite parts store the other day,and can look right out the front window and see my truck, parked, innocent like, when the counter man says "look at that would ya,that lady just hit your truck!" I look out and here is some dip$hit driving a minivan, drinkin a cup of coffe, talking on her cell phone, with four kids bouncin' around inside. She was so busy with everything else, she FORGOT to turn the wheel enough to get the van into the parking space beside my truck!!
Know what the REAL pi$$er was? Three of us in the store watch her hit my truck, then back up so she could get her van parked, got her red paint on my white pickup, but her exact words?? "I NEVER HIT YOUR TRUCK!!"

An interesting side not. The decibel system is a logarythmic system. Therfore the 140 db horn is 10 X AS LOUD, not 1/13th. You may want to consider putting sound deadening material behind the horn so that you don't get a hearing loss like the kids with the dumb "boom" trucks. I know, I found that I had a hearing loss on the top end at the age of 28 from drag racing with open headers.

Some old Chevys 39 to be sure had a two horn system. One was a city horn and one was a country horn. You use whatever one you wanted.. The country horn, definatly loud.
