Well , been to two hog callins & a county fair , but never seen anything like the school bus demo derby I just saw on the tube. Musta been thought up by a person with a warped sense of humor like like our own SLAMMIN. LOL It took place somewhere in ohio or PA. Wild is all I can say. Yeah I've seen em race semi tractors on circle track , but this was even wackier. B-O-B**********DSRA

Neat sounding Bob!! should be a hoot trying to steer that big thing and look behind ya! lol Hope it come to this area...
Speaking of Derbys, I finally got fed up with "monster garage" when they took an almost cherry looking '70 Chevelle SS and tore it all up for a demo derby junker...I know it's supposed to be for "fun" but that went too far..I don't think it was similar to the Home Improvement demolition (supposed,,lol) of the red Nomad but still, to tear up a collectable car and then stick a hog head in it that can't drive anything with more than 2 wheels is a little much...

Two groups with two *trainees*. Was pretty cool, cut up a caddy and a Dart and made boats out of them, the Caddy one was SLICK! and hauled a**

The new thing around here is Pick up truck demo derbies. Full size 2 wheel drive trucks. I haven't seen one yet, but just found out last week it was in. I wish TNN was still showing some of hte Friday night Demo Derbies like they did 5 years ago. Their new format pretty much sucks!!

Harvester Combine Demolition Derbies are a thrilling sport! Harvester Combines are the widest vehicles (in width) currently used in Demolition Derbies, so if your bringing a harvester combine to a demolition derby you may have to take it apart first so that you can transport it legally to the combine demo derby, but an advantage of using combines is you may be able to use the same combine over and over for the demo because a lot of the parts that break easily in the demo are easily replaced or fixed, they aren't like cars where the back end gets crushed to the wheel wells and there is no way to replace just the back portion.
MACHINE PREPARATION RULES & REGULATIONS:
1. Any size of self propelled combine is allowed and all equipment is to be original (no reinforced parts or shields) and if the combine is a 4 W.D., the 4 W.D. must be disabled..
2. Must use a grain table (NO CORN HEADS) in a fixed position at 18"to 24" above the ground. Remove the hyrdaulic lift cylinders and replace them with stationary supports. You may weld, bolt, and/or use bracing from the feeder house to the head to hold the head on. The bracing can not be more than 1 foot beyond the widest part of the head.
3. Remove the reel and cut back the reel supports. Remove the knife, guards, loose sheet metal, the unloading auger, cab ladder and the drive belt for the separator.
4. Remove the glass from the cab and weld or chain the door shut. Put some kind of driver protection on the cab at least 36 inches high. If you do not have a cab make a roll cage out of something like 2 inch pipe and cover part of it with pig fence to protect the driver.
5. The fuel tank must be in the grain tank.
6. Driver must have a seat belt and helmet.
7. At the start of the derby all tires must be rubber, filled with air only - no duals.
8. Driver must be 16 years of age or older.
9. Judges decisions are final.
RULES OF THE COMBINE DEMOLITION DERBY
1. No direct hits to the driver’s area.
2. Must stop machine upon lifting of other machine off wheels to eliminate tip overs.
3. If you are rolled over, the heat will be stopped and your combine will be placed back on it’s wheels.
4. During the competition you must initiate contact within three (3) minutes. If at any time you cannot make contact within the time limit you will be disqualified.
5. A maximum of ten (10) minutes between heats for repairs of machine.
6. All motion to be halted upon signal from referees in case of fire, injury, and other emergencies.
7. No hits when opponent is out of bounds.
8. No pit racing.
9. ALL COMBINES MUST BE REMOVED BY SEPTEMBER 1, OR THEY WILL BE REMOVED AT OWNERS EXPENSE.
10. EXPLANATION AT DRIVERS’ MEETING.

Whats a "Combine?"
Sounds like something that a truck mounted welder would make some money at....if it's what I'm thinking it is....
Whats next, D9 Cats?? I didn't think that stuff could go fast enough to inflict damage on a like vehicle!!
Now, Southern wheelbarrow racing is a hoot! You can install a single cylinder Briggs up to 10 HP and chain drive it to the rear axel...Where you put the seat is completely optional...steering is accomplished by leaning..IE, lean to the right (which raises the left wheel) and you go to the left....a good sense of balance is mandatory..Once the race is completed, the winner is tested for octane..the driver, not the 'barrow!!

This was just written about my son in an on-line magazine.......
this is from a site that writes about racing on the island.
If we had stayed, everyone would have sat around all day, watching the rain start and stop, waiting for the track to dry. Any fans that would have showed up would have been miserable. The only one who may have had a good time is our buddy Pete up in the top of the backstretch grandstands. Pete (otherwise known as the Bullfather on the local Long Island Jam message board) loves to sit there during the track-drying process, doing the play-by-play of which tow truck is passing the other, describing how well Billy Slotkin is passing on the outside of one of the Pace Cars, etc… Real exciting stuff during the boredom of a rainout… http://www.longislandmotorsports.com/guest%20column%20-%20Fields.htm
Slammin ! When ya gonna start a motorized wheelchair demo derby???????????? Just the thought gives me shivers. Of course imagining the evil grin on your mug also would scare off most of em. heh heh heh B-O-B*****DSRA
