Why would the 2 end carburetors on a 3/2 setup, which I believe to be an Olds J2, have accelerator pumps?

Do you mean idle circuits rather than accelerator pumps?

No,there are no air metering screws on the 2 end carbs, but there are accelerator pumps.

If the end carbs have only staged mechanical linkage and no vacumn style diaphram pots, i would suspect the pumps are there to prevent a bog from wooding it off idle.

Are they using progressive linkage?

The accelerator pumps would work the same as on a single carb. As you open the throttle they would squirt alittle gas so the motor won't stumble until the main circuit catches up.
