502 Ram Jet information request

I just purchased a 1994 Stillen Suburban with a recent 502 Ram Jet and was looking for a little information.

What weight of oil is recommendd Summer / winter

Is there an easy way to connect the stock cruise control cable to the throttle linkage, it is right there next to it just nothing to connect it to.

Does anyone make cold air intake kits for it.

I believe the manufacturer reccomends 5 or 10-W-30, but I am sure you will get all kinds of opinions on this one.
Most of the newer GM engines have gone to lighter oils.
However, you need to consider your local climate and your driving conditions before choosing.
Hotter weather and more severe usage requires a little heavier oil.
Of course you can always go full synthetic, but few people ever own a vehicle long enough to justify the extra cost.
Remember, there is one thing synthetics do better than they lubricate. They leak! They will find any microscopic pore and wiggle their way through it.

I've used 10W30 in everything from a VW to a 454 Monte Carlo and have never had any problems that was caused by oil. I've used Pennzoil and am now using QS, as I can get it at Menard's for almost free using rebates, and HAVE NEVER had any gumming or sludge problems using any oils, plus using $1.50 Fram oil filters. But then, my engines are mostly stock.

To quote Justice "but few people ever own a vehicle long enough to justify the extra cost."

That also works fine for other things besides motor oil. I'll let it go at that.

Ok, I'm missin' somethin'

I didn't say anything wrong, did I?
I just see alot of people spending tons of money on synthetic oils. Then they trade or sell their cars after 2-4 years.
There is nothing wrong with that. However, they could probably have saved theirselves some money, and enjoyed the same level of reliability from their vehicles.

I was agreeing with you. It's just like this set of railroad tracks that are on the road to the factory where I work. If you 'fly' over them, the ride is nice and smooth, but these people with their new vehicles slow down and bounce up and down going over them. They say they want to 'save' their car from torture...just to trade as soon as they get them paid for (sometimes not that long).

To an extreme, my brother wouldn't even use floor mats in his cars. Said why should he save the carpetting for someone else. LOL.

I used syn oil in one truck that I had, until I said "why?". The truck still ran long after I got rid of it. I will switch to syn oil in the Honda when I get enough miles on it, as it makes 'em shift easier.

OK, good!
I was afraid I had unknowingly implied something in my post.
You know how it is when you put stuff in writing. Many times it reads totally different than you intended.

Thanbks for the information. Just some info take it or leave it. If you like the fram $1.50 filters you would love the wallmart brand "superteck". They are actually the $10 mobil one is disguise, no joke cut one open and see if you don't believe it, I did. Just thought I would pass that on since you look like you know a bargain. I have a good report of a bunch of oil filters that were cut open and inspected for type of element and type of anti drain valve. I hate to tell you this but the cheap fram is about the worst filter you can buy. If you want to look, the site is Engine Oil Filter Study. It is very interesting.

Well GAWLEEEE, Sgt. Carter....I think I'll go back to the original Bugs, which had no filter at all; just a wire mesh screen. Thanks for the site info.
